Most of the newsboys were on the football team for our high school. I was dating the receiver, Spot Conlon. The Quarterback was Jack Kelly, the wide receiver was Racetrack. Those guys were my best buds. I was on the cheerleading squad, it was my job to cheer on my best friends. I do have girlfriends on the squad but I just click better with the guys. It was halftime and our team was losing, well I think it's time to do my famous motivational speech. I walked over to the locker room door. I did a special knock so the coach would know that it was me. He let me in and gave me a nod.

"They really need one of your speeches y/n." He said.

"Don't worry, I have a few words in mind." I smirked and faced the boys in the locker room.

All the boys looked to me with a little hope. "First of all," I started, "you guys smell." I said waving my hand in front of my face. Some of the guys laughed. "Which is good," I smiled, "because that means you're working hard." They smiled. "Now, you can't give up. I notice some of you guys are slipping up and it's bringing you down but hey that's over now, we need to focus on the future." Some of the guys nodded. "Ok guys remember, ball first. I know you are scared of getting tackled but you always get back up. So ball first, you catch that ball then worry about what happens after." "Now defense, some of you guys need to go for their quarterback and some of you need to pay attention to their receivers, you got it." They all nodded. "Good," I smiled. It was about time to get back out on the field. "NOW WHO ARE WE!" I yelled.

"THE WARRIORS!" The guys yelled.

"WHAT DO WE DO!" I yelled.

"WE WINNN!" They all chanted and ran back out on the field. I followed behind the guys with the coach.

"Way to go y/n, you always somehow inspire them. And I like how you added in catching the ball." The coach laughed.

"Well coach, it's my job to inspire. That's what being a cheerleader is all about."

"Well you do a great job." Coach smiled at me.

I ran back out to the rest of the squad that was doing a cheer to pump up the crowd.

Halfway through the 3rd quarter the guys started to get their mojo back. Our defense intercepted a ball and ran it for a touchdown, which also means we get a turnover. So now we have the ball and my Spotty was out on the field again. I love seeing him in his uniform. He looked over towards me and gave me a wink. You could hear Jack yelling at the boys from the sidelines.

"Blue 34! Set! Hike!" Jack faked giving it to Spot and held the ball to throw to Racetrack our wide receiver. Just before Jack got sacked, he threw the ball to Race who caught it but got tackled right after. It was now a first down for our team. That's a good example of ball first, I smiled.

We started another cheer.

The other team got a flag for a false start which pushed us up fifteen feet. We were now only ten feet from the end zone. This puts us in an easy scoring position.

Jack faked the pass to Spot and ran for it himself. He got about five feet before he got tackled.

It was now fourth quarter with five minutes left. We needed just one touchdown to score. They better pass it to Spot, I think they are catching on with these fakes.

"Two 32! Set! Hike!"

Spot ran about five feet from the end zone, Jack passed the ball to him and he caught it. Spot dived into the end zone, so he wouldn't be tackled before he got there and lose the game. He made the touchdown in the last thirty seconds. I jumped up and down so happy for Spot. He ran over to me after getting off the ground, he picked me up and spun me, he gave me a big kiss. I could hear the girls on the squad oooo. I smiled into the kiss and pulled away.

"Ball first." I smiled.

"Ball first."
