Damian sat at the breakfast table. Jon told Tim about how Damian was going to ask his friend, Tiana from American history to the dance. Tim laughed saying that was probably Damian's only friend. Jon thought for a second. "And a guy named Sam."
Now it was breakfast. Like usual, Damian was picking out all of the strawberries, fucking over anyone who wanted strawberries and woke up late.
"So." Tim said, buttering toast. "Little D is going to a dance."
Damian stopped eating. "How do you know about that?"
Tim smiled. "I'm smart."
Jason sat down, exhausted. "Jon told him- I was there."
Tim flipped off Jason, who grinned.
"Yes, it's true." Damian admitted. "I am taking a girl to the dance."
"Do you even know how to dance?"
Damian frowned. "I'll figure it out."
"No way." Jason interjected. "You need to know how to dance before you go." He looked at Tim. "Tim, teach him."
"No way!" Tim objected. "Stop making me take care of him. First dad and-"
"'first dad' what?" Bruce asked, sitting down at the head of the table and picking up the newspaper.
"I keep getting stuck with teaching Damian shit and we act like that's actually going to work."
Damian laughed. "Because you're a shit teacher."
"Because you're impossible to teach, Literal Bastard."
"There's nothing you could teach me." Damian sneered. "Literal Orphan."
"Hey- there's a literal Bastard-Orphan here. Save that shit." Jason griped.

Damian met Jon at the library in the middle school building since it was getting too cold outside.
"Are you going to do it?" Jon whispered.
Damian sighed. "Yes."
"Why don't we practice?" Jon suggested.
"That is an absolutely horrible offer."
Five minutes later, Damian sighed. "Do you want to go to the dance with me?"
Jon laughed. "Say the name!"
"Jon, do you want to the dance with me?"
"No." Jon said. "Use her name."
Damian groaned. "I'll just ask her after class. Something will come out."
Jon shrugged. "I guess that's a good plan."
Damian sat through class beside Tiana. She had her natural hair in little puffs on top of her head. When the bell rang, Damian shouldered his bag. "So I've been thinking." Damian said, trying to act casual. "It would suck if I went to the dance, not knowing everyone, you know. And so I figured I should probably go with someone and then-"
Tiana smiled. "Yes, Damian. I'll go to the dance with you."
Damian nodded but felt himself beginning to smile. "Great. I'll pick you up at 6 on Friday."
She scribbled down her address on a piece of paper and handed it to him. "Might make things easier if you know where I live." She laughed.
"Uh- yeah." Damian said, putting the note in his pocket.
