One day later...
My poison oak had taken full effect and it was itchy as Hell!! I was scratching at it all day which left big, red, blotchy scars on the palms of my hands. Typing away at his computer, Patton was working on a project which kept him busy most of the day, leaving me to do nothing but prop seed packets against the windows whilst the rain toppled down.
"I almost fell down a well yesterday, Pat." I said, my voice very monotone.
"Uh-huh.." Patton replied, clearly more focused on his device.
"I would've died!!" I exaggerated.
"That's nice." Pat yawned, knackered from working all day.
Since I could see that my brother wasn't listening to me, I tried to get him to listen.
"So, can I go out?" I asked cheerfully "I think it's perfect weather for gardening!"
"No, Roman. Rain makes mud; mud makes a mess!" Pat explained, trying to reason with me.
"Patton, I want stuff growing when my friends come to visit!!" I begged "Isn't that why we moved here?!"
Patton let out a long sigh of boredom as if he couldn't stand anymore of my yapping.
"Something like that... but then we had the accident!" He sighed, pointing to his severely fractured wrist.
"It wasn't my fault you hit that truck!" I blurted out, slightly agitated at this point.
"I never said it was..." Patton replied, eyeing me with fatigue.
"I can't believe it..." I murmured "you and Logan get paid to write about plants... and you hate dirt."
"Ugghhh, Roman! I don't have time for you right now!!" Patton groaned, releasing his anger out on me. " and you still have unpacking to do. Lots of unpacking!!"
"That sounds exciiiiting!!" I sneered with a pinch of sarcasm.
"Oh... some kid left this on the front porch." Patton lent out his hand with something wrapped up in newspaper.
I opened up the package slightly to find a note attached:
Hey Princey,
Look what I found in Grandma's trunk.
Look familiar?Virgil
I groaned at the thought of this kid. He's just so annoying!! I continued to unwrap the crumpled up newspaper to find I small doll that looked awfully familiar... it had every single feature of my appearance from the freckles across my face to the clothing I was wearing that exact second. The only thing that it had different from me was it had buttons for eyes. I was incredibly creeped out by the sight of this inanimate imposter.
"A little me?" I pondered "that's weird..."
"What's his name, anyway?" Patton smirked, giving me the you-like-him eyes. One word to describe that thought. Disgustang!!
"Virgil..." I replied "I'm way too old for dolls!"
Patton let out a small snigger which left me in a grumpy state. Bored out of my mind, I plodded down the dreary corridor and opened the door to Logan's study.
"Hey Logan!"
I was greeted with yet another tired brother, slumped back in his office chair with heavy bags under his eyes and two cups of coffee on the desk. There was stacks and stacks of paper incasing me and Lo in the room with some boxes for protection.
