( Y/N's p.o.v.)
Sitting in the back seat of my father's car, we headed to the old campsite, ready for a week of outdoors. The camper was hooked up to the back of the car and the night seemed peaceful, if not for the fact my parents had been arguing the entire time. Their marriage was just about to meet its end and my father tried this camping trip with all of us together in a last attempt to save the marriage. However, from the way things were going, it didn't seem like it was working.
" Why did we have to go at night, Jeremy!? You know I hate the dark!"
" I thought it would be calming. You know, seeing the stars."
As they continued to fight, I tried to block them out with my music. I looked up from my phone and out the car's front window, what I saw made me freeze in fear. A man, or what looked like a man, in a bloody red suit stood there, standing over a dead, half eaten deer.
" DAD!! STOP!!"
He slammed on the breaks and we all stared at the man. He slowly turned towards us, his face covered in shadows, but his golden, sharp toothed grin glowed brightly. When I blinked, he was gone.
" What was that?!"
" I-I don't know." My dad spoke, his usual calm voice shakey.
" Dad, I don't want to be here... how about we go to a motel for the night and then find a new spot tomorrow?"
He nodded slowly.
" Y-Yeah....that's a good idea."
He backed up the car, turned us around, then head back into town. The drive back was quiet, none of us dared to speak a word. That smile haunted me and even though I couldn't see his face, I could feel him staring at me.Once we got to the motel, my dad checked us in and we went to our room. I sat outside on the ground, my parents talking about what that thing might have been in the woods. I sighed heavily, tucking my hair behind my ear. The night was cold and I snuggled into my jacket for warmth.
Won't be too much longer till snow starts to fall...
My mom called out my name, making me jump.
" (Y/N)! Come in, it's too cold."
Sighing, I got up and went inside the motel room, closing the door. The room was an okay size, for a motel, and it was pleasantly warm. Heading into the bathroom, I changed into some pajamas, then I flopped down on my bed. My parents were silent, staying away from each other as much as they could. I snuggled under the covers and sighed. My dad turns off the lights and turns on the TV.
" Goodnight, sweetie."
" Night Dad."
I fell asleep to my parents angry mumbles. When I woke up the next morning, my mom was gone.
" Dad...?"
He was gone too. I got up and saw a note on my nightstand. I picked it up and read it" (Y/N) we went to get breakfast, we'll be back as soon as we can. We love you.
Love, Dad."
I sighed and sat on my bed. Turning to the clock on the wall, it read 8:59. I got up and changed into something warm.
After I changed, I went outside and walked around, snow gently falling from the sky. I smiled as a snowflake landed on my nose. I heard a growl, but it sounded like the growl was coming from out of a radio. I looked around and my attention went to the woods not too far from the motel. It was eerily quiet, suddenly, there was no birds singing, no chirping of crickets, nothing.
" H-Hello?"
Nothing, no sound, not even the wind blew. I got the feeling someone was watching me, making me feel uncomfortable. I stepped back then quickly ran back to my room. I ran into the room and slammed the door shut.Where in the hell are my parents!?
I sat on my bed, turning on the TV, and sat quietly. After what felt like forever, my parents came back, the smell of pancakes and waffles followed them. I was so relieved to see them that as soon as my dad put the food down, I threw my arms around him.
" Woah, hey. You okay, hon?"
My mom rolls her eyes.
" I told you we were gone for too long!"
" Mari, can we not fight?"
She went to say something, but I stopped her before she did.
" Mom, please."
She looked at me in mild surprise, then turned away.
" Fine."
I sighed shakily and hugged my dad tightly.
" I love you dad."
" I love you too. Honey, is something wrong?"
" I....I just got worried." I said letting go.
He nodded and handed me my food.
" I called your grandfather, he said we can stay at his cabin. That sound okay with you?"
I nodded with a smile. I loved the cabin my grandfather had. It was warm and inviting and I can even remember all the Christmas nights I spent there. My dad shared my smile.
" Then its decided, we're going to the cabin."
I could almost feel my mom's glare.I hope this ends well.
