Chapter Two
Once Harry had finished grooming himself, he grabbed the little box that had been safely tucked away inside his suitcase and headed out the door. The short drive to Crystal’s apartment gave Harry just enough time to think about tonight. He had made reservations at a fancy restaurant that was about thirty minutes away from his hotel. It was said to be one of the most talked-about restaurants in all of Calgary, so he booked the two of them a private dining area for this special evening. He wanted Crystal to remember this night forever.
He parked his car on the side of the street and walked up to the apartment building. He was eternally grateful that Crystal had given him a key to be able to enter the front doors, so that he wouldn’t have to ring up to her room and ruin the surprise.
He took the stairs to allow himself to clear his mind of any worry that had been settling in his gut. He knew that tonight was going to be the best night of their lives, and nothing could change that.
Harry stopped in front of Crystal’s door. He reached up and touched his chest, feeling the little box that was perched safely in his coat pocket, and took a long, deep breath.
He knocked three times on the door and waited. He could hear Crystal’s hurried footsteps all the way to the door and the sound of her unlocking it swiftly before gently opening it.
There she was, looking even more beautiful that Harry remembered, but he wasn’t surprised. She got more beautiful each time he saw her. She was wearing a dark blue one-sleeve dress and had her hair up in curls. Her bright eyes widened in shock when she realized that it was Harry who had come to see her. “Surprise!” Harry said through his huge adorable smile.
Her shock turned to overwhelming joy as she ran into Harry’s arms. “Oh my GOD!” She exclaimed. “I can’t believe you’re here! Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?! I would have gotten ready ten times faster!” She laughed and Harry held her tight. He breathed in her familiar scent and brushed his fingers across the smooth skin of her back. He took as much of her in as he could, because he had missed her more than words could describe.
Crystal did the same; she ran her hand through his long curly hair and kissed his warm neck. She had never been so happy in her life.
They stood there for a moment, just appreciating each other’s touch. When they finally released, Crystal looked up into his eyes and smiled, as if that were all she could provide to express her happiness. He smiled back at her, and couldn’t believe how lucky he was to be able to call her his own.
Harry was the first to speak, “I’ve missed you so much.”
“I’ve missed you too, more than you can imagine...” Crystal replied.
“I hope it’s alright that I’ll be taking you to dinner tonight instead of your friends.” Harry said politely.
Crystal laughed. “Harry, I see my friends every day. I think I can let this one slide.” They both giggled together briefly before Crystal spoke again, “I’ll go grab my purse.” She walked down the hall into her bedroom and returned shortly after with a little black clutch. She slipped on her fancy blue heels and they made their way to the car, arms locked tightly.
When they arrived at the restaurant, they were seated immediately in a beautiful private dining space. Crystal was very impressed. “Wow, this place is gorgeous! What’s the occasion?”
“You are,” He replied lovingly, and Crystal couldn’t help but blush.
They ordered their food and sat talking about life, what each of them had been up to, and other various topics. Crystal told Harry about her schooling, how she was getting into feline physiology and how excited she was about it since cats were her favorite animals. Harry was excited for her since he, too, loved cats. He thought about how great it was that he was partnered with someone as caring and compassionate as Crystal, since she loved and appreciated animals and was dedicating her life to helping them. He couldn’t imagine himself going through all those years of studying, and was so proud of her for following her dreams.
Harry then talked about his tour. He told her how much he enjoyed performing and spending every waking moment with the lads. He didn’t mind how exhausting it all was, but he did really miss his family and friends and was excited to come home. He told Crystal about how he had been planning to surprise her that night and how he had visited Sheyenne and Rebecca beforehand to set things up. Crystal felt so appreciative that she had such a loving guy like Harry, who wanted nothing more than to be there for her and make her happy. She thought about how amazing it was that he had chosen her, of all girls in the world. But he was the one for her, and she was the one for him. There was nothing more to it.
Harry had grown quiet as he sat and listened to Crystal speak. He wasn’t paying full attention, because he had something else on his mind. He wanted to wait for the end of the night, but the wait was killing him. Crystal became aware of his quietness and commented on it. Harry had made his decision.
He got up, walked around the table to where Crystal sat, took her hand and knelt beside her. “Crystal, these past two years have been the best of my life. Even though we spend a lot of time apart, I love you more with each day that passes. You are my entire world, and I can’t bear the thought of not spending the rest of my life with you. With that being said,” He paused, and reached into his coat pocket to retrieve the small box that rested there. He turned it towards Crystal and lifted the lid open. Inside the box lay a gorgeous diamond ring. “Crystal Amanda Poniewozik, would you do me the honor of marrying me?”
