"Fuck." Ellen spat again. The damn keys. She couldn't find them. "dammit!" Her purse fell to the floor, spilling all of what's inside on her front porch. The door opened, revealing her husband, Chris. "Chris, I won't be feeling very well when I come back. It's just that I'll miss him. He's my best friend." Her husband repeated what she had just told him a few hours before she went to work.
Ellen shut her eyes tight, trying to keep her tears in. "It's okay." Chris whispered as he pulled her in for a hug. He was a lot taller than her, so his hugs were very comforting to Ellen. "Just let it out." He stroked her hair gently. "I'm so sorry." Ellen cried. "It's not your fault, El. It's not your fault." How could she do that to such an amazing man? She realized in that moment that her life outside of Patrick had always been perfect. It just wasn't a life she would choose to live. And yet she was here anyways.
After her encounter with Chris, Ellen's husband offered her some alone time, so he took Stella to the park.
Ellen pushed down the guilt of hurting this amazing man, and went to take a shower so she could wash off Patrick's touch.
She let the boiling hot water relax her muscles and shoulders. She tried as much as possible to let the memory of him go down the drain, too. But it's like he was a permanent part of her now, and she will never be able to get rid of him.
Ellen stepped out of the shower and wrapped her naked body in a white towel. Ellen noticed a small cut on her hand. Probably from the plate she threw on the floor.
She opened the cabinet and the first aid kit was the first thing she could see. She wrapped her hand and applied some pressure to stop the light bleeding.
She dried herself and put on a set of black underwear, Chris' hoodie on top.
Walking down to the wine cellar she grabbed the bottle she has been dreaming of the entire day. Ditching the glass, Ellen walked out to her backyard.
The cool breeze of the night hit her skin. The smell of rain mixed with the grass filled her lungs and for the first time today, she was able to get his sent out of her system. The moon looked down on her as she stood there for a second, enjoying the piece that she knew wasn't going to last.
Ellen gulped down some wine as she sat down, pulling her husband's hoodie to cover her legs as she pulled them up to her chest. She took a deep breath of slight relief. She let her head drop aback. Closing her eyes, memories of Patrick flashed right in front of her blue eyes.

"So, you're actually doing this?" Ellen and Patrick walked by the shoreline of the beach. Ellen's shoes in her hand, she let the water splash all over her skin. "Patrick don't, please." She looked down at the moon's reflection on the clear water. "I just wanna know if you're sure of what you're doing."
"Maybe I should ask you," She looked at him and smiled. He laughed. "I'd tell you to run, run as fast as you can." Patrick's thumb caressed her hand. "So you're against weddings?" He shook his head. "I'm against marrying the wrong person." Ellen stopped walking. "Really, you sassy man."
Patrick stopped and walked a few steps back so he was standing in front of her. "and what makes you so sure that Chris isn't the one for me?" Patrick flashed her a smiled. His hand unwinded with hers, but it took him a few seconds to place it on her face. His thumb outlined her jawline. Ellen's heart was beating like crazy, she was scared he might hear it.
He brought his lips to her ear. Goosebumps covered Ellen's skin. Without even looking, Patrick ran his hand over her arms to make them disappear. He placed a small kiss on the spot right below her ear. She shivered. "Does he do that to you?" He whispered in her ear.
"Patrick." Ellen cried in desire. "Please." She whispered. He responded by kissing her. It was slow, passionate, full of love.
Ellen wrapped her arms around his abdomen as he grabbed her face with his hands. He pulled away. "Don't marry him, El." She looked down, their foreheads resting against each other. "You and I," She sighed. "We'll never happen. You're married. Chris is an amazing man," She stopped. "You don't love him." He read her thoughts.
"I can't keep sneaking around, Patrick. I need something real to society. I need something that won't shatter me."
"What's the point of love if it doesn't?"
