Chapter 37: Prescription Strength & Overcharged

Cole and Cassie mind the water as they walk along the roof, "You know I just to love swimming when I was little. Dad had to keep an eye on me so I wouldn't go running off into the water." Cassie states as Cole jumps over the gap between the houses, he lands on the roof and turns to her as she lands next to him, "And now?" he asks with a smirk and she looks up at him. "I want to stay ten or twenty feet away from the water," she states and he just laughs.

She rolls her eyes at him and shoves him a little, but then they both heard someone calling out for help, they looked over and saw some of the ice soldiers trying to mug someone. Cole looks down at Cassie as she looks up at him, "Go ahead." he tells her, she smiles and took off running. She jumps off the roof and glides over to them, landing behind them, then pulls her whip loose and cracks it, wrapping it around the man's neck, he gasped as he drops his gun and grips onto the whip around his neck, and aims her hand at the other as he turns to her, "I wouldn't." she warns him as electricity cracks in the palm of her hand. The man kept his gun trained on her, "You're not very nice, shaking down an unarmed person." she informs him, then the civil behind the man cries out as he jumps onto the soldier's back and struggles with him, Cassie was surprised at first, then shifts her hand into a hand-gun and fired electricity into the soldier's head and he stops and drops dead.

She then did the same to the other and he drops as well, the civil then looks down at the man and back at her as she cracks her whip and it wraps around her waist and she walks up to him, "Not bad." she states, patting his shoulder then walks off. The man watches her leave and then fist pumps in the air as he was just praised. She then climbs back up as Cole walks to her dusting off his hands, "Took care of them?" he asks her, she nods at him, "Good, cause I just healed two groups of injured people and then took down a lot of Militia and the ice soldiers and stopped a mugging. Two muggings." he informs her and she crosses her arms. "No one likes a show-off, Cole," she informs him, he just chuckles at her. "Oh! I almost forgot. Listen to this." he tells her and presses play on his phone.

That's a lot better, John. We can hear you. How are you calling us?

A tin can on a string at this point. After the quarantine went into effect, we've all had to improve.

What's going on in Empire City? We're not getting much information on the outside.

Neither are we. Not getting enough food or medicine either.

The President claims they're sending supply drops three times a day!

We're all trapped in here. It's like they want the disease to take hold. No effects to study it. You know what? I believe this would happen. The Ray Sphere, the disease, all of it. They had a blockade around the whole city almost before the dust had settled. This points to a massive conspiracy. What if the NSA and the First Sons are working together?

I can't believe that. But you're right, this is disturbing. We had no idea things had gotten this bad.

Well, they call it the plague, in here. It started striking the population soon after the blast. It's highly lethal. Some folks die the same day they show symptoms

The recording ends and the two exchanged looks. "So this was after the quarantine was in effect," Cassie states as she rubs her chin. Cole nods at her. "Wolfe didn't know the effects would be this bad, so he created the RFI for something to counter the effects?" she states as she turns to him. "Maybe, but we would know until we find more," he informs her, she nods at him and they both continued to walk along the roofs and then came to dry land and jumps down.

But then they saw someone waving at them and so they walked up to the man, "Can you help deliver this food and medicine? I'd do it, but ice men just take it away from me. My friend on the other end will light a flare to help you out." he informs them, the two nodded at them.

They ran to the supply crate, "I'll carry it, you keep the ice men off my back." Cassie informs him, he nods at her and she uses her kinetic pulse to carry the supply through the small town and into the flood area. Cole fires at the icemen, keep them off her as she threw the crate into the flood area and chases after it, keeping out of the water and dry. She then lands in the top of the crate and looks at the wall, "We have to get on the other side of this wall!" she calls out, Cole lands on the sideways pole. He nods at her and she lifts the crate again, then shot it along the side and she quickly flew after it, Cole fires her, keeping it eyes out for any of the icemen.

The crate then lands in the water and she lands on top of it, then she looks up at the train that was in the wall, judging from how it was, the impact broke down the wall, enough to get through. "Here goes nothing," she mutters then lifts up the crate and shoots it over the wall, she then quickly climbs up onto the train and ran over to the other side. She then fired at the ice men as Cole jumps over as well and fires at the other icemen, taking them all out. Then she picks the crate back up and they hurried down the tracks. Then the saw the red light of the flare just ahead of them, the two smirked at each other and hurried.

More of the ice men stood in their way, but Cole took them out as Cassie just sprints for it. She then makes it to the marker and places the crate down as Cole catches up with her and dust off his hands. He smirks down at her as she just smiles. "Thank you, with this, we should be able to help the others. If you ever need medicinal help, we'll patch you up." the man informs them, they nodded at him and high-fived each other.

Cole and Cassie ran through the Flooded City, from left to right, stopping a mugging, healing the injured, collecting blast shards. Cassie sat on the edge of the roof, stretching her limbs. "Man, for a flooded town, there is a lot of work to be done," she states, leaning against her hand. Cole chuckles. They then look down at the protesters as they were calling out for Cole and Cassandra to be cast out of New Marais. Cassie just sighs. "Well, we can't make everyone happy," she states and he nods at her. "We'll just have to show them," he states, she looks at him and smiles. But then Cole's phone rings and he answers it. "The Militia took out another substation. Our electrician friend has the thing all ready for you and Cas. Come on, man, let's get you two charged up." Zeke informs them.

The two exchanged looks and took off running from the station and into the flooded area, they jump onto the powerlines and glide down them. They then came to the substation Cole lands on top of it and was now charged. Then Cassie jumps down as well and she too was charged. Then they jump onto the powerline above them and glide down it, passing the Militia men along the way, then they both jump onto the next powerline and continued forward, Cassie fires at the Militiamen as they went along the powerline and then jumps onto the last powerline, and within seconds later, they were at the substation and lands on top of it, overcharging it and taking out the Militiamen that were around them.

Cole pants as Cassie looks around at the Militiamen that were down, she then exhales and jumps down from the substation and Cole dust off his hands and jumps down as well and lands next to her, they both looked at each other and fist-bump each other.
