Chapter 63: Death Toll & The Final Piece

Cole and Cassie swung themselves through the Gas Works, using their tethers and land right behind Zeke who was looking at a dock across the street with his binoculars.

Thunder rumbles in the sky as they walk up to him, he pulls back and looks at them, then handed Cole the binoculars. "The one walking around with the Blast Cores' their leader," he informs him as Cole looks through his binoculars, then he handed Cassie the binoculars and she looks through them. "Must be serious if he's holding onto them," she states and Zeke nods at her. "He's got them preparing for something," he states as she hands the binoculars back to Cole, but then Zeke started to cough.

Cassie pulls away as he looks at him, "Alright, two more Cores, and we use the RFI." he states as Cassie walks past him and places her hand on Zeke's shoulder as he was leaning against the wall for support. "Zeke..." she asks as Cole turns to them, "I'm fine," he assures her, but coughs even more, then she grips his shoulders. "Look at me," she orders then looks down at his body, using the gift John gave her and she saw it, she gasps and lets him go, taking a step back. "No... no, not you too," she mutters.

Cole looks as well and saw the plague festering inside Zeke's body. He then looks back at his best friend. "Jesus, why didn't you tell us, Zeke?" Cole asks him in a worried manner. Zeke just waves off his worry. "Ah, you both got enough to worry about. 'Sides when you use the RFI I might be cured, right?" he answers him, but Cassie shook her head and covers her mouth. Still in shock that Zeke had the Plague. "You don't have that much time," Cole warns him.

But Zeke took the binoculars from him and pats Cassie's shoulder. "Well then go in there, and get those damn Cores," he orders them, they step back as he leans against the wall, thunder softly rumbles from the sky, making Zeke lookup. "Looks like it's gonna be a hell of a storm," he states, Cassie looks up and saw the thunder crackling through the clouds and she smiles to herself. "Yeah, there is," they states then walk towards the docks. The ran towards the front of the docks and looks out at the remaining ice men left from Bertrand's Forced Conduits' project.

The lighting cracks and thunders over them as the icemen then turn and looked at them. They opened fire and the two fired back. "Stand your ground." the leader orders them as Cassie threw out a vortex and send a few of the icemen flying, Cole threw out a few grenades and blew a few up. "'88, stand together, for the General." One calls out, Cole fires at him, killing him. "Hold them back! The general is watching." Another call-out. Cassie was shot a few times and she stumbles back. But she turns back then summons down the thunder, healing herself. "Damn, saw that from here!" Zeke said over the radio.

She then turns back and took out the Ice heavies as they were firing on Cole, he then summons lighting and heals himself. "Mother of God." then Cole threw out Ionic Freeze, taking care of the last ones. Then they look and ran over to the side of the docks, looking for their leader. "We will be whole!" he cries out, the turn and saw him speeding running off. "Ah, he's got the Blast Cores." Cole groans as Cassie threw up her arms.

Then they took off after him, chasing him down the road in toward the warehouse, "We need this, it's our salvation!" he calls out, trying to reason with him. But they didn't listen and ran past the warehouse. Cassie then uses her tether and pulls herself up onto the roof of the other warehouse he jumped onto and gave chase, Cole smirks and uses his Tether and pulls himself up onto an oil station and uses it again and flew past the oil station and onto the roof.

They chased after the man until he led them all the way right to the Ice Tower, "He's jumping up the tower. That boy's quick." Zeke states as Cassie sighs, "Motherfucker." Cassie mutters and they both use their tethers and swung them into the tower. They land on the platform and use the ramp, running closer to the top, but then when they ran out of the ramp, they use electric pipes and flew right up towards the top.
