Chapter 13 - Good Boy

It's a new day at the guild and here I am crouching on the floor in the corner of the guild with Natsu in front of me. "Natsu sit" I commanded and he sat down immediately. "Good boy" I praised before giving him a slice of chicken as a treat. "What are you doing over here Lucy?" I looked over my shoulder to see Gray. "I'm teaching Natsu some tricks" I replied as I stood up. Natsu whined and begged for the treats in my hand. 'He's so predictable when food is around' I thought. "Pfft Flame Brain is being obedient for once that's hilarious haha-ouch!" Gray exclaimed as Natsu nipped his ankle. 'Seems like Natsu has found Gray's weakness' I thought with a giggle. "What's so funny?" Gray grumbled, "nothing~" I replied.

"Anyway" I said as I picked Natsu up, "no more biting Gray's ankles" I lightly scolded Natsu before bopping him on the nose. He whined, "no complaining Natsu" I replied. He folded his ears and looked down sadly. I patted his head, "good boy" I said and then put him down. "So what types of tricks did you teach him?" Gray asked. "Watch. Natsu sit" I command and Natsu sat. "Lie down" I commanded and he crawled his front paws down into a laying position. "Good boy, now roll over" I commanded and he rolled his whole body. "Good boy" I happily praise him before giving him a big slice of chicken for all three tricks.

"Have you taught him to beg yet?" Gray asked. "No not yet-huh?!" I was shocked to see Natsu sitting up on his back legs while holding his front paws to his chest in a begging pose. "Wow good boy Natsu" I praised and gave him another slice of chicken. "He'll do anything to get treats huh? Let me have a go" Gray said and I gave him the little treats I had left in my hand. "Natsu lie down" Gray commanded but Natsu turned around and sat down with his back to him. "Stupid mutt" Gray growled and I smacked the back of his head. "Don't call him that" I scolded, "sorry" he apologised as he rubbed his sore head.

"Hey Lu!" I heard someone call out for me and I turned to see Levy walking over to us. "I'm heading over to the city library and I was wondering if you wanted to join me. I heard they've just received some new books recently" she said excitedly. "Really?!" I asked excitedly. Just thinking about borrowing a new book to read really excites me. "Ah huh, so I'm guessing you're going to come with me" she replied. "Ah huh" I replied, "wait a minute" Gray interrupted and I felt my heart sink. "What wrong?" I asked, "it's too dangerous for you to go alone with that dark guild after you so I'll be coming with you" he replied. "A dark guild is after you Lu?" Levy asked worriedly. "Oh yeah I forgot we didn't tell the rest of the guild about the dark guild being after me" I said. "Why are they after you?" she asked, "they're after my Celestial magic for some reason" I replied.

"Well if those dark wizards show up during our library trip I will definitely protect my best friend" Levy said with determination. I heard Natsu barked and looked down. He sat by my feet and put his paw on my foot while looking up at me like he was saying 'I will protect you too'. I smiled as I picked him up and cuddled him. "Thank you Natsu" I whispered and I noticed his ears twitch. He turned his head and licked my cheek.

"I'm coming too" we heard a gruff voice say. The owner of the voice was none other than Gajeel. "What?" Levy and I said in unison. "I overheard your conversation and I want to tag along" he replied. "Why would you want to tag along to a library?" Levy asked sceptically. "If those dark wizards show up, I can finally see some action. I've been so bored lately" he replied. "Alright you can come" I said, 'and maybe I can make them get closer together hehe' I thought evilly. Levy lightly glared at me, probably knowing my intentions. "By the way, where is Erza? I wonder if she would want to come" I asked as I looked around the guild. "She went to the bakery earlier and she won't be back for a while" Gray answered. "Ok so it's just the five of us" I said, "five?" Gajeel questioned. "Natsu's included of course" I replied, "oh yeah forgot he was here" he said and Natsu whined.

Later that day, the five of us arrived at the library and Levy and I rushed inside, leaving the boys behind. We quickly walked to the bookshelf with the new arrivals. With a pile of books each, we sat at one of the library's tables and began to read them. Soon Gray and Gajeel sat next to us, "where's Natsu?" I asked, looking up from the book in my hand. "He's tied to a railing out the front. The librarian said no pets allowed" Gray replied and then suddenly we heard Natsu barking like crazy outside.

We rushed out of the library to see what was going on and saw three of Death's Five Sins were standing there. Hiroshi was holding Natsu by his collar with Tadashi and Kaito beside him. "If you were a library book, I would check you out" Hiroshi said as he looked at me up and down. "That's so cheesy, especially since we're in front of a library" Levy quietly said to me. "I know" I replied.

Tadashi ignored his comrade and stepped forward. "Hand over Lucy Heartfilia" he demanded. Gray stood in front of me, "not gonna happen" he said. Tadashi unsheathed his katana and held it up to Natsu's neck. "Hand over Lucy Heartfilia or the puppy loses his head" he said and Natsu squirmed in Hiroshi's grip. "Don't hurt him!" I shouted and pushed past Gray. "I'll go with you just don't harm him" I said. "Lu don't" Levy said worriedly. "You know I don't have a choice Levy" I replied and walked towards them.

Tadashi grabbed my wrist and I whimper as he twisted it behind my back. "Let the puppy go" he said and Hiroshi threw Natsu to the ground. As they were about to take me away, Natsu ran to Tadashi and bit his ankle hard forcing him to let go of me. Before Tadashi could grab me again, Gajeel's Iron Dragon Club slammed into his stomach and punched him across the street. "I've been itching for a fight" Gajeel smirked.
