Chapter 15 - I'll protect you Lucy

Natsu's POV

'Lucy's making my favourite. Lucy's making my favourite' I singsong inwardly over and over again from my bed. I was laying on my bed with my tail wagging at the thought of eating Lucy's delicious cooking. From my spot on the bed, I could occasionally sneak a peek of Lucy cooking our dinner every time she wondered close to the doorway. It makes me happy to know she's safe and cheerful. I thought back to when Hiroshi held me hostage.

I was watching Lucy through the library window when out of nowhere someone lifted me up by my collar. 'Let go of me!' I barked and turned my head to see who grabbed me. I became angry to see it was that playboy who broke into Lucy's apartment. 'It's you! Let go of me you damn playboy! I won't let you take Lucy away from me!' I barked angrily and then Lucy ran out of the library with everyone else.

"If you were a library book, I would check you out" Hiroshi said as he looked at Lucy up and down. 'Don't flirt with her' I growled at him and then Tadashi stepped forward. "Hand over Lucy Heartfilia" he demanded. I saw Gray moved to stand in front of Lucy protectively, "not gonna happen" he said. Tadashi unsheathed his katana and held it up to my neck. "Hand over Lucy Heartfilia or the puppy loses his head" he said and I squirmed nervously in Hiroshi's grip to get away from the blade.

"Don't hurt him!" Lucy shouted and pushed past Gray. "I'll go with you just don't harm him" she added. 'Lucy. Don't go with them' I whined. "Lu don't" Levy said worriedly. "You know I don't have a choice Levy" Lucy replied and walked towards us.

As soon as Lucy was close enough, Tadashi roughly grabbed her wrist and twisted it behind her back. My chest hurt when I heard her whimper in pain. "Let the puppy go" Tadashi said and Hiroshi roughly threw me to the ground. It hurt when I hit the ground but I needed to do something before they took Lucy away from me so, I quickly stood up and ran at Tadashi. 'Let go of Lucy!' I growled as I aggressively bit Tadashi's ankle. I felt relieved when Lucy was released and then I quickly ran to her side to protect her. Tadashi was about to grab Lucy again and I was ready to attack him when Gajeel's Iron Dragon Club slammed into his stomach and punched him across the street. "I've been itching for a fight" Gajeel smirked.

Lucy moved away from the other two dark wizards and I followed after her. Gajeel ran towards where Tadashi landed and then I saw a water whip flying towards Lucy. Luckily Ice Stripper reacted quickly and froze it. I watched him run towards Hiroshi to fight him and then chains flew at Lucy. 'Stop targeting my Lucy!' I growled. Levy quickly jumped in front of us and blocked the attack with her magic. "Thanks Levy" Lucy said, "any time Lu" Levy replied and faced Kaito.

Three fights broke out and I decided to stay by Lucy's side to protect her. "Open! Gate of the Lion! Loke!" Lucy chanted and a man in a suit with spiky orange hair appeared in a golden light. I had a feeling inside me screaming that he was a playboy. 'He better not flirt with my Lucy' I thought. He ran off to help Ice Stripper and then Lucy ran to help Levy. 'I'll protect you Lucy' I thought as I ran after her.

Lucy cracked her whip and wrapped it around Kaito's ankle before pulling him to the ground. 'Nice move Lucy!' I inwardly cheered. Levy shot a thunderbolt at him and Kaito rolled away at the last second. He grabbed Lucy's whip and pulled her to the ground. He tried reaching for her but I quickly ran in front of her. 'Don't touch my Lucy' I thought as I bit his hand. "Ow!" he exclaimed in pain and retracted his hand. Lucy took the chance to stand up and get some distance from him. "Thanks Natsu" she said as I ran to her side. 'I won't let you touch my Lucy!' I barked at Kaito.

"Natsu! Dinner time!" I heard Lucy called out, snapping me out of my thoughts, as she walked out of the kitchen. I jumped up and leapt off my bed before running towards her. The smell of the roast chicken she cooked just for me smelt heavenly and I felt my mouth water. She placed my plate in my usual spot beside the table and I eagerly ate the delicious food.

After my yummy dinner, Lucy went to the bathroom to have a bath. I tried to follow her in but as usual, she told me to wait outside before shutting the door. 'Why can't I go in with her?' I wonder as I sit outside the door. My mind wandered to when Lucy was talking to Gray earlier today at the guild.

At the guild's bar, Lucy had a worried expression on her face and Gray had asked if she was alright. We both noticed she's been acting a bit strange since those three dark wizards retreated. I looked up at her worriedly and she seemed to noticed I was concerned about her. She then gave me a small smile and patted my head before looking back up to Gray.

"It's just...When they threatened Natsu, I felt scared. Scared that they were going to kill him and scared what they wanted me for" Lucy replied. 'She was scared for my life?' I thought and felt my heart skip a beat. I rubbed my head against her chest in comfort to let her know I was here for her. Suddenly Gray put his hand on Lucy's back, 'stop touching her Ice Stripper' I growled at his hand. "It's ok to be scared. Everyone feels scared sometimes because we're human. All we can do is not let our fear control us. Besides you have everyone in Fairy Tail to fight your fears by your side" he said. Finally I saw Lucy's smile, "you're right Gray. Thanks" she replied. 'I'll let you have this victory Ice Stripper because you made her smile' I thought.

I snapped out of my thoughts when the bathroom door opened. I happily stood up and moved out of the way to let her through. She smelt like strawberries and she was dressed in pink pyjamas. I followed her as she walked over to her bed. Everyone was tucking themselves into bed but I stayed beside Lucy's bed. I pawed at her sheets and whined to get her attention. She looked down at me, 'please let me sleep on your bed' I whined. I wanted to be by her side to let her know she doesn't need to be scared of losing me because I won't ever leave her. She smiled and lifted me onto the bed. As soon as she laid down, I cuddled up to her. "Goodnight Natsu" she whispered and closed her eyes. I rubbed my head gently against her body as a way of saying 'goodnight'. With her sleeping peacefully, I let out a yawn, laid my head between my paws and closed my eyes.
