"i'm right here" he says behind payton. he's like a foot taller than him how did i not notice

the weird 'i know you so well but i'm awkward in person' tension quickly died down as hayley came more and more out of her shell. i think that they like her, she's pretty hilarious and doesn't give two fucks about what people think about her.

i notice chase next to me on his phone texting paragraph after paragraph. it was to ethan.

"chase, how have you been?" i ask, trying to include him more into the conversation

"good." he doesn't take his eyes off his phone

i go on my phone and text payton

"i'm going to the bathroom, chase do you need to go?" payton says as he nudges anthony to get out of the way

"i have to go so badly" anthony starts to get up

"bro sit back down" payton quietly says, and hayley giggles, "chase do you need to go? come on" payton repeats himself

chase reluctantly gets out of our booth and heads to the bathroom with payton

"god what's up with him? are eboys always like that?" hayley complains

"hayley, i don't think that's how it works" anthony corrects her

she let out a quiet, "oh"

anthony laughs and looks over at me, i shrug

"you know, i'm going to head to the bathroom too, i'll be right back" hayley says as she gets up. she grabs the trash and throws it away and heads towards the bathroom

anthony was sitting on his phone

"so anthony, how are you and avani?" i ask

"good, i think" he says

"what do you mean, you think?"

"i don't really feel anything with her anymore, i don't know, the connection we used to have just isn't there anymore." he puts his phone down

"oh. is that good? have y'all talked about it?"

"yea i guess, we talked about it did last night"

"well i hope you guys are both happy, with or without eachother." i mean it

"thanks ev." he smiles at me and i blush

why am i blushing.

"hey guys we're bac- oh am i interrupting something?" payton barges into our conversation again

"nope just talking" anthony answers for me

"good, where's hayley?" payton questions "i want to back to the hotel, everyone is there"

"the bathroom, she'll be right back" i look up at payton and chase

hayley returns and we head to the car. i guess chase and anthony ubered here? i'm too tired to notice

i look over at payton, we are in front of them, walking to the car, "that was a quick talk with chase, is he okay?" i ask

"yeah, he showed me ethan's texts, and we have a plan. i think"

"what do you mean, a plan?"

"long story short, he never was really talking to cynthia, she caught feelings for him, confessed, and then ruined it for business. you picking up what i'm putting down?" he asks casually

"wait, so this was all about her? and business?" i ask

"yes, i'll talk to you more about it at the hotel, you just have to be willing to help him out. and if you're not in, don't say a word about this to anyone. not even hayley"

"what the fuck payton?" i'm so confused

"are you guys okay?" chase comes in between us and wraps both his arms around our necks. this is the chase i remember

i look up at him and don't say a word.

"has he told you, didn't he? shit i knew you wouldn't." chase tells me

"no he hasn't. and i just want to know what's going on." i whine, "is it bad?"

they don't say a word. i roll my eyes.

we arrive at the car in no time

i sit in the front with payton and the rest sit in the back

i can't stop thinking about what payton and chase are going to tell me. is it serious? and if chase wasn't actually talking to cynthia like payton said, does he like me back? still?

scenarios run through my head and i can't think straight

i'm interrupted by hayley, "ev don't you remember that?" she laughs

"huh? what?" i zone back in

"when you spilled your coffee all over yourself in front of luke" everyone in the car laughs again

luke was a senior, and i was a junior. i had a crush on him for three years, until he dated hayley. she loves bringing up embarrassing stories about me and luke.

"oh yeah" i smile and she tries to bring up another embarrassing story about me until everyone's phones ding except hers
