Sweater Weather ~ The Neighbourhood
° ° ° °
One... Two... Three...
I count the rain drops racing against the outside of the classroom window in attempt to pass time in Geometry class.
Glancing up at the sky, I watch the clouds slowly move to a different place. The sky itself is a weird shade of Grey and Blue, something about it is oddly comforting.
I don't even realize how much time I'd spent gazing out the window until a tap on my shoulder pulls me back into reality.
I turn around to see mr Johnson, my Geometry teacher, standing over my desk
"Miss Williams, class is over."
I look around me and realize that I am indeed alone in the classroom.
"Oh... Sorry sir l was just... I'll go now." l half smile to be polite before grabbing my books and making my way out of the class.
Alex didn't come to school today, he texted me telling me to not pick him up on my way to school because he's feeling a little sick.
I start pushing my way through the crowds of teenagers to my car when I'm stopped by an arm being wrapped around my shoulder.
"Hey Lynn." Blair greets me, Eli walking alongside her.
She decided out of the blue to start calling me Lynn because Laynie is too long according to her.
She's sort of something else, but l like it. She's not all about boys and makeup despite the fact that she's really good looking, l like that about her.
"Hey guys." I smile at both of them.
Make our way out of the school building we're all greeted by the pouring rain.
We stop right before we step outside of the building, by now everyone's gone home.
"Oh shit, that's a strong one." Blair mutters as a flash of lightning strikes the empty parking lot, disappearing halfway before touching the ground.
"Eli there's no way you're walking home, you're coming with me." Blair tells Eli and he nods.
"Laynie, are you okay?" Eli asks.
I give him a small smile "Yeah, thanks."
He doesn't look convinced but just as he's about to say something, the ear-piercing sound of thunder interrupts.
"Okay on three we're making a run for it, guys?" Blair asks and we both nod.
"One.. Two.. Three!" Blair and eli run to Blair's car and l sprint to mine.
I quickly get in and slam the door shut before starting the car and turning on the windshield wipers.
Eli gives me a thumbs up that is barely visible through the wet glass but i somehow manage to see it so give him a thumbs up back.
He lightly chuckles before Blair waves to me and they start driving off.
I lock the car and rest the back of my head against the head restraint of my seat as l watch the raindrops disappear with the movement of the wipers being quickly replaced with more rain.
My vision starts blurring with tears as the weight of everything starts getting heavy now that I'm alone.
And I just let them fall, not knowing what else to do.
