Isabel Gray is the daughter of Nicholas Gray and Alice Gray. Located in a small town in England, Isabel was forced to spend her time confined in her room from early hours of the evening to late hours in the morning. All because of a witch her mother made a deal with in order to find her sister. During the late 15th century, witches were most popular in England, because of the rising population. They were the wise, old women who called upon the spirits of dead ancestors for help and practised witchcraft, spells and brewing, all while in the control of the devil. When Alice's sister disappeared unexpectedly, and only a week later announced dead, Alice knew it was no accident. Everyone thought she was crazy for believing that Anne's death was not an accident, so she took matters into her own hands. One day, at the rise of the morning sun, Alice took the long journey to the wisest, but kindest witch she knew. This witch was not like the others, she was self-taught in witchcraft. Everyone believed that she was the only witch in which was not controlled by evil spirits from hell. There, Alice asked to contact the spirit of Anne in order to know the truth. In return for her service, the witch asked for one thing in return. This did not affect Alice's decisions, and without any questions, she agreed. Little did she know that this would lead to many issues for her daughter.
They couldn't contact Anne. It was as if she wasn't actually dead, but there was nothing else the witch was willing to do to help. As Alice was about the leave for home, the witch stopped her at the door,
"Payment, my dear. You owe me for my services... no?" She says, cackling at the end. Alice turned to her,
"Of course, Dalia. What is it that you require?" Alice asks, disappointed that she still had to pay for a failed attempt at contacting her sister. Dalia brought her hand from her pocket, within her clasped fist was a vial,
"Pour the contents of this vial into a drink and give it to your daughter. That is payment enough, my dear," She replies. Alice was beyond confused,
"What is in this vial, Dalia? It won't harm her, will it? How do you know I have a daughter?" She questions rapidly, her face showing pure concern and worry. Dalia cackles lightly,
"Don't you worry your pretty little mind, dear. Isabel will be perfectly healthy. Now, now, run along dear, I have lots to do," She answers, giving Alice a small shove out the door, before slamming it shut. She walked home, the feeling of uneasiness settling deep in the pit of her stomach. She knew not to trust witches, but she had no choice. Dalia would know if the potion was not given to Isabel.Arriving at home, Nicholas greeted his wife with a loving hug. Not knowing where she had disappeared to, he was worried that the same would happen to her, that did to her sister. They walked into the kitchen together, and Alice explained what she had been doing so early in the morning. Nicholas was not only happy she was home, but also concerned about the vial and what it was going to do. Alice opened the vial with a pop and poured the contents into a glass of juice. While she was doing this, Nicholas was pouring two mugs of coffee for each of them. They took the drinks with them when they went to wake up Isabel. Alice shook her daughter gently to ease her awake. Lifting her head and rubbing her eyes, Isabel mumbled,
"Morning," To which Nicholas replied with,
"Good morning, sweetie," And Alice continued,
"Morning, honey. How are you feeling?" Her head was pounding from worry about what she was about to do,
"Good," Isabel replied, sitting up on her bed,
"I brought you a drink up," Alice told her, shakily, as she handed over the glass. Isabel was 14, but she didn't think much of the family party going on in her room. It was normal for them to gather in her room in the morning. A new witch act had been put into place last year and if anyone found out Isabel drank a potion from a witch, all three of them would be killed. Nicholas handed Alice her coffee, hugging her in order to calm her nerves.
