You flopped over on your bed for what seemed like the thousandth time. Your nose was stuck in a book yet your mind was wandering off in space. You groaned in frustration as you laid on your back and flattened the open book on your face.
You were trying to study for exams but your body refused. You'd lose your focus and the words on the page would fly right over your head so you'd have to read it again.
You could have called it quits right then and gone out for some brain stimulation, but the pouring rain made that impossible. The rumbling thunder just overhead was a very loud reminder that.
As a matter a fact almost everyone in the college was instructed to remain indoors. There were some warnings going around about a terrible storm brewing tonight. You decided to head down to the lobby of the dorm building and see who else was lounging about.
To your surprise the answer was a lot. Since your dorms were co-ed, you found a handful of your friends and classmates gathered in the common room. You recognized one of them to be Mina, your dorm mate.
"What are all of you so giggly about?" You asked, seeing them all giddy with excitement.
"(y/n)! Guess what I found in the laundry room closet?" Mina squealed and jumped to her feet. "Do you want to play?"
You raised an eyebrow. "What is it?" You instantly regretted that question when she revealed the large wooden board in her hands etched with letters and numbers and even a few rigid scratch marks.
"What the hell, Mina! Why are you messing with that!?"
The girl had a Ouija board. You had seen enough horror movies to know it wasn't smart to be interfering with things you didn't understand. Just seeing it out made you want to 'nope' the fuck out of there.
"Aw, come on, (y/n)! Live a little! It's just a dumb board game," Kaminari said from his spot around the coffee table.
"That, my friend, is why you would die first."
Sero rolled his eyes. "No need to be so serious. It can't be that bad."
"I'm skeptical so I wanna see if this works," Jirou shrugged.
"Guys, I don't think you should be trifling with a world we don't anything about," You sighed. "There are so many stories of bad things happening when Ouija boards are involved. Can't you find something else to entertain yourselves with? I don't want a ghost haunting our dorms because of your incompetence."
"Relax! I looked up a tutorial online!" Mina waved her phone ecstatically.
You peered at her. "Oh yes that makes me feel so much better."
"We'll be careful, (y/n). You don't have to join us if you don't want to." Kirishima came out as the only sound mind in the room. Or as sound as one could be when saying they're going to be contacting the dead.
You shook your head and crossed your arms. "You idiots can do what you want. Just start when I leave please. I'm getting a snack." With a disapproving exhale you spun on your heel and headed towards the vending machines at the front desk.
"Alright! Let's do this!" Mina whooped, placing the board on her lap.
"Shouldn't we wait? (y/n) did say to start when she left," Jirou interjected.
"She's gone isn't she? Come on, she's out of the room anyways."
Kirishima chuckled nervously. "I think she meant once she went back to her dorm."
"Then she should have specified!" Mina argued and placed her fingers on the planchette. "Alright everybody touch the board piece. The game calls for a medium so I'll be taking that role."
