An unsettling storm of anxiety hit your nerves. You were but an insect to his steel gaze.
"What do you want?" Your voice spilled before you could stop yourself.
Your unease brought a slight smirk to his face. "I hadn't heard from you since our last call. I wondered whether you were going to accept my offer," he mused. "But it would seem a follow-up wasn't necessary."
Your last call... You furrowed your brow in thought, running back to that fateful day with vivid memory...
"Hello, am I speaking to (l/n) (y/n)?"
"Yes, this is she..."
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss (l/n)," the caller said, their tone far from amicable. "My name is Endeavor."
Your eyes widened. Endeavor? As in the Number 2 Hero, Endeavor?? Your head spun with questions, but you didn't get to ask any as he continued. "I heard about your encounter in the news. Though the school did go to many lengths to try and hush it down, it didn't escape my radar."
"You have quite the quirk," the hero said.
Your chest fluttered from the compliment. Coming from the #2? That was insane. And yet your heart drummed with eerie anticipation...
"Thank you, sir, that's very honoring to hear from the Number 2 Hero."
"Mm..." He hummed in agreement. "You know, I used to go to UA with your mother. How is she?"
You frowned at the sudden change in topic. "She...she's okay."
"I heard she was going through some troubling times as of late. You're being taken care of?"
"Yes," Your tone hardened, not liking what he was insinuating. "May I ask why you're calling, Endeavor sir?"
"I was made aware of your situation, (l/n), and I believe I can help you."
"Is that so?" You ruminated with a bit of bite in your bark.
"I know that you have less than a month to pay your rent before you and your mother are both evicted. And that officials are cracking down on people who are working without proper quirk licenses, especially in the area around your mother's hospital," He relayed as if on script. Your heart sank at hearing this, hearing things even you didn't know.
You felt a sliver of betrayal flow through you. How could your mother not tell you this? You had every right to know what was going on.
But one question sat at the forefront of all these doubts. "Why are you telling me this?" You inquired, unable to hide the defeat in your tone.
"I told you, I can help you."
"How?"
Endeavor cleared his throat. "I'm sure you're familiar with the traditional form of finding suitors. Quirk marriages were used to unite individuals with complimenting powers. It's not common practice anymore, but it is the most effective way of creating a strong bloodline."
A shiver ran down your spine.
"I have a son at UA. I'm making sure that his future, as well as his lineage thereafter, will be a success. I believe that could be accomplished with you as his partner."
Your lips parted in surprise as he continued. "You see, (l/n), I can help you, if you would only help me."
You shook your head in disbelief. "What...? What you're asking...that's...that's..."
