"You're Dean Winchester?" the man asked. He was wearing a dark uniform, with high boots and ominous looking duty belt around his waist.

Dean gulped. "That would be me, sir."

"Mr. Winchester, I need to talk with you about your brother," he proceeded. "I'm Trooper Crowley with the Kansas Highway Patrol. I'm the one who was a first responder to your brother's crash."

"He's not in trouble, is he?" Dean asked, scared.

"Well, Dean, it looks that way. We ran some test on his blood..." Trooper Crowley trailed off.

"And?" Dean asked anxiously, and maybe a bit too harsh.

"And... his Blood Alcohol Content was over the legal limit. Actually 0.0 is the legal limit for a kid his age, or anyone under 21," he paused. "Now, I can't take him into custody until I speak with a legal parent or guardian."

Dean pondered the Trooper's statement for a moment. What am I going to tell him? Dean asked himself. I can't tell him that our dad is a deadbeat who gets drunk and beats me (if he's actually home), and that I pretty much take care of Sammy on my own.

Finally, Dean answered, "Our father is out of town for the time being, and I'm not 100% certain when he'll be home next."

"Oh?" Crowley mumbled thoughtfully. "Is that right?"

"Yes, sir, unfortunately it is," Dean put his head down in shame.

There was a knock on the door. A nurse poked her head through the opening. "Dean? Castiel need to speak with you."

Dean whipped his head up. "Is everything okay?"

"I'm afraid not," she said quietly.

Dean turned back to the Trooper. "If you'll excuse me a moment, sir?"

"Of course," Crowley replied politely.

Dean rushed down the hall to Gabriel's room, where Cas was standing outside.

"Cas, what's going on?" He asked as he came up to Cas.

"They kicked me out when things started beeping. I didn't know what was going on..." he trailed off. He seemed as though he wasn't all quite there; like he had left a part of him behind in that room with Gabe.

"Cas, it's getting late. You can come with me to finish talking to the Trooper, and we can head home. Everything will be okay," Dean murmured quietly into his hair as he pulled Cas into a tight embrace. Cas pulled away and Dean's shirt was slightly wet from where Cas' head had been.

"Dean..." he pleaded. "I can't leave him, please. You have to let me stay."

Dean pulled Cas into a hug and kissed the top of his head. "Oh Cas..." he trailed off. "What am I going to do with you?"

Cas looked up into Dean's eyes and gave a small smile. "Alright," he said quietly. "I'll go home, but on one condition..."

"And what would that one condition be, Cas?" Dean asked with a smirk.

Cas put his head down and chuckled. "I won't have to be alone with my dad..." he said quietly.

"Okay, you can stay at my place. My dad isn't home, so it won't be a problem." Dean replied. He paused a moment. "Shit, Cas. I never finished talking with the Trooper. You want to come with?"

"Yeah, I guess so. I don't thnink I can stand to be here any longer," Cas said as he shook his head.

They walked back towards the room where Crowley was waiting for Dean's return. "Hello, boys," Crowley welcomed them. "Castiel, how is your brother?"

"I - " Castiel started, and when his voice cracked, he was cut off by Dean's harsh voice.

"Sir, we would rather not speak about this at the moment. If we could finish the questions, please, we would like to go home," Dean said, rather bitterly.

Crowley looked astounded by Dean's response but moved on to the questions. They were simple questions, just asking Dean about his brother and his daily habits. Dean couldn't believe that even the damn law enforcement would get involved in this. Crowley kept asking is Dean drank, if Sam drank, and finally if John did.

"Well," Dean started; he was starting to get nervous. I can't just tell him that Dad is a drunk who beats me when he's home. I'm not 18 yet and we don't have anywhere to stay. "Well, sir," he began again. "My dad used to on occasion, but because of his work, he cannot any longer,' Dean lied.

Crowley nodded his head. "And what is it that your father does, Dean?"

"He drives semis for a grain company out of Nebraska. I can't remember the name." Dean and Sam had told the same lie over and over again for explanations as to why Dean would sometimes show up to school late and disheveled because John had to leave early for a "drive", as he called it. Sometimes, these "drives" lasted from a week to two months. This one has lasted about one month so far.

"Alright, Dean," Crowley said as he stood up. "I think that's all of the questions I have for you today, boys." he nodded to Cas. "I hope your brother is better." he turned to Dean. "You'll recieve a call from me soon. Good luck."

Crowley turned on his heel and left, closing the door behind him.

Dean just sat there with a blank look on his face. "Cas, what am I going to do?" he mumbled. "I can't let the state take Sammy, he's all I have; he's the only reason I'm not dead.

"Well, Dean," Cas started. "Let's head back to your house. I can drive if you want me to?"

Dean snapped out of his trance. "No. I'll drive. No one but me drives Baby.

Cas laughed, and they were on their way.
