The halls are filled with moving shadows. They're loud, but you can barely hear them. You're too far already. Where? That's a tricky question. It depends on the day, or even on the moment.
Sometimes, you're in the past. Yours, the world's, someone else's,...
Sometimes, you're in the future. Yours, the world's, someone else's,...
Sometimes you're in the present. What are the people you can't see doing at the moment? What are they thinking? Feeling? You're thinking about them but, are they thinking about you?
Sometimes you're very far away, in a land out of time, with people far less shallow than the shadows around you.
But is that really true? Or is it merely how you see them?
And sometimes, you're near and far all the same, for you are in your own mind, in your own space.
Nonetheless, everything else is tamed, and progressively disappears...
Until something pulls you back, like a fisher's hook drags a fish out of the water.
And you can't breathe anymore. You're knocked off-balance. But you pretend.
And, in some cases, the "fake it 'till you make it" trick works, and you adjust. And you breathe. And you're balanced.
