Wad's POV
Why is it so hot? I claw at the blankets, trying to pull them off, but they won't budge. I go to unbutton my shirt and growl when I realize I still have my tie on from this morning. I should have undressed. Tugging on my tie, I begin to feel like I am not alone.
"Mom?" I call out. "Prem?" I turn my head looking at my door. It is still closed. Glancing around the room, I don't see anyone. Maybe I am just jumpy since I am home alone. I finally free my arm from the stranglehold the blankets have on me and reach for my phone.
"Shit!" I curse, "Why the fvck is it dead?" I glare at my phone, remembering I forgot to plug it in last night when we got here. Stupid. Stupid. STUPID! Prem and Mom will worry when they can't get a hold of me.
I look up at a noise from the living room, "Mom? Prem?" I call out again. Still no answer. Surely they can hear me from here. I get up from my bed and sigh, looking back at the bed. From the looks of it, I had a nightmare. Because I don't know what else would explain the state, it is in right now, and it must have been a bad one. The fact that I don't ever remember having them is a blessing.
When I hear a sound again, the hair on the back of my neck stands up, and I get goosebumps. I stare at the doorknob as it slowly begins to turn.
Prem's POV
"Officer Luang," I say, calmer than I really am right now, "I don't have time for this." Wad's mom is becoming frantic as another officer detains her.
"That reporter," I point back to the reporter, "Just said that piece of trash is on the loose." I try to pry the officer's hand off of my arm, "And Wad is home alone. ALONE!!" I glare at Officer Luang. "Do you understand he is alone and doesn't know that the bastard is free? And that woman said he is considered armed. Armed!" I want to punch this man to make him let me go. "Explain to me how the fvcking piece of trash is armed?"
"He stole the transport officer's handgun," Officer Luang tells me.
"He what?" Wad's mom gasps. "He has a gun?"
"I need you both to come with me," Officer Luang says, looking at the reporters who are now staring at us. "Please."
"I said I don't have time for this! Wad is alone with that freaking maniac loose," I seethe, "The last time he kidnapped Wad! And you want me to come with you when the monster has a gun?"
"I need you both to come with me," Officer Luang states again. How much trouble do you get in for punching a police officer? And do I care? Wad is home alone, and his phone keeps going to voicemail. I have more important things to do than to go with this officer. I raise my fist, and a hand catches it.
"No, Ai'Prem," Knott orders, "You can't do that." I want to scream. Why did he stop me?
"Why are you even here?" I scream at my friend. "Wad is alone, and that bastard is free with a fvcking gun!" All of my friends and Wad's stare back at me in horror.
"We will go to the house," P'Arthit tells me, "You stay here and find out what is going on. We will go." I nod numbly. Finally, someone understands.
"You all will stay here," Officer Luang orders my friends.
"WHY?" I shriek.
"Because all of you are targets," Officer Luang tells me calmly. "Or did you forget about the packages and letters?"
The girls gasp, and I turn to find that Wad's mom has fainted. Bright and Tutah are standing over her as the girls fan her. Where are my parents? They could go. They weren't part of the threats. But P'Dean is a madman. Would he care who else he killed? Do I want to send my parents there if they could die? Why do I fvcking have to choose?
