(Sorry this is long, haha! 1,300 words is a bit much for a one shot, but we all need some of this good TogaFuka juice, haha!)
TRIGGER WARNING!!! Talks about s*lf h*rm with mediocre detail. Please stay safe, don't hurt yourselves! I love you!
-------
Toko Fukawa woke up in her dorm. Still mostly unconcious, she sits up and looks to her window, but remembers that it is bolted shut.
Hope's Peak Academy: the ultimate despair-inducing high school. After being stuck in this dreaded building for three weeks, she had lost many possible friends. And she knew that she might be the next one to die. The anxiety of these thoughts gave her rush after rush of adrenaline, which was the only think keeping her going.
She swings her thin, pale legs over the side of her bed. Her back aches, her hair is a mess. She fans her hand over her nightstand, picking up her large, round glasses and placing them on her face. She stands and crosses her bedroom to her dresser, quickly brushing her hair out and raking it into her two braided pigtails. She had fallen asleep in her clothes, too tired and grief-stricken to change. Her shirt and skirt are wrinkled, but Toko doesn't care anymore.
She jumps into her school shoes and makes her way out the door. She is supposed to meet her classmated for breakfast, not that she'll eat anything. The only reason she interacts at all with her classmates is for one person only: Byakuya Togami.
Her golden prince, her only source of hope left in her life. The ultimate heir was the most wonderful and beautiful person she had ever met. Not only was he handsome, but he was smart, brave, and strong. He had lead the students through this cursed school, doing his best to solve the mysteries and protect his classmates. She was utterly in live with her blonde hero.
But she knew he didn't love her back.
The cold look in his eyes, the distance he wants to keep from everyone else, including her. She knew he thought she was vile. Why would he love her? She is just a lowly child, a girl with her head in the clouds and her heart in her throat. Nothing about her was worthy for his affection, but she enjoyed his company anyhow. He made her feel safe, something she needed in this damned school.
She strolls into the cafeteria, fiddling her hands together. Damn, was she late? Most of her classmates were already sitting down. She nervously scooted into a seat beside Togami, not saying a word.
Naegi stands up. "I'm glad you guys are all okay, I was afraid... something would happen to you tonight. But we are all here still." He smiles shakily.
"Anyways, we need to stick together today. Buddy system, right?"
Togami stands as well. "The buddy system will work as long as you are in complete trust of the person or people you are with. Be careful, someone you think you can trust may stab you in the back."
Everyone begins to file out of the cafeteria with a buddy, some holding hands, some in nervous silence. Pretty soon, Toko and Togami were the only people remaining in the cafeteria.
"T-ogami--" Toko choked out. Her golden prince looked down at her.
"I see, its you." He crossed his arms. "I am headed to the library. If you insist on staying with me, I am headed to the library."
------------
Toko scanned the shelves of the library. She wanted to sit with Togami at one of the reading tables, but was too afraid he would hate her company. She spies a title she recognizes, and pushes it back behind the rest of the books, afraid someone else would read it. She can't have her classmates reading her works, they would torment her to death.
Eventually, the petite girl grew tired of wandering and decided to sit with Togami. She slowly walks up to the table he is at, pulling out the chair directly across from him and slowly sitting down.
"H-hi," she stammers, unsure of how to act.
"Hello," he says, not looking up from his book.
Toko begins to tremble. She has spent three weeks with this amazing boy. She has learned to love him for who he is, not just because he is rich and pretty. And he hasn't learned to accept her back. She talks to him, and he doesn't even look up. All she has done has been for him and because of him. She stands up quickly, finally gaining a look from Togami.
"Toko, what are you doing." Its not a question, but he commands an answer.
"I d-doubt you e-even care. I'm going t-to my room. Alone." Without waiting for a response, she storms off, leaving Togami speechless and alone.
-----------
Toko lays on her bed, crying. She can feel the stinging lines on her arms and legs. Her head is dizzy from the loss of blood, and her vision is smeared by the tears in her eyes.
She hears a knock at the door. She frowns, attempting to ignore the visitor. But the persistant classmate knocks again.
"H-hello?" Toko chokes out. The voice on the other side is almost unfamiliar.
"Toko, are you in there?" The voice is soft and gentle, but Toko would recognize it anywhere.
"Yes... w-what do you n-need, Togami?"
"I need to come inside, if you'll let me."
Toko looks down at herself, blood on her hands. "No!!! You d-d-don't want to come in."
"Please, Toko."
Shaking, Toko stands up and crosses the room, opening the door for Togami.
Immediately, Togami sees what Toko has done to herself. "Toko, why?"
"I'm sick and tired of being ignored. Why wait to be seen, when I could be waiting for my death." Her stutter is completely gone, she is so upset. "I figured that if I was the one who killed myself, I could stop the waiting without any one else being executed."
Togami stares at her, agape. He grabs a towel from her shelf. "Please use this to stop the bleeding, please."
Toko blinks at him, taking the towel with her shaky hands and holding in between her forearms. Gently, Togami takes her arms and pushes them together, putting more pressure to stop the bleeding.
"I-i'm sorry, Byakuya... I'm disgusting." Toko starts to pull away from the blonde. Togami holds on tight.
"Don't even think about apologizing to me. You did this because of the way I've acted." He leads her to the bed, helping her sit, and sitting next to her.
"The way I've treated you is unexusable, and I am gravely sorry. I never thought I could cause this to happen, I never thought you would do this because of me."
Toko sniffs. "No one e-ever thinks. No one c-considers my end o-of the interaction."
"And I don't think you've considered mine."
Toko stops sniffling and looks up at Togami.
"I've never acted fondly towards you," he continues, "because you make me nervous. When you're around, my palms sweat and my heart races, and its not just because you're a serial killer."
"I know you've been in love with me Toko. And I never acknowledged it because, well..." he hesitates. "I like you too, Toko. You're smart, and brave. And extremely strong, to have lived with a killer inside you for so long."
"I admire how open you are with your emotions. When you're mad, or upset, you let it show. Not to mention letting everyone see how in love you are." He shakes his head, laughing to himself. "No one realizes how important you are to the group, but I do. I know I should have said something sooner..."
Toko smiles. Her first true smile in weeks, a grin that was as bright as the sun itself. The clouds lifted from her face, and her true beauty shined through without her permanent frown. "O-oh!!" She leans into him, tears rolling down her cheeks. This time, they're tears of joy.
"Promise me Toko, you won't hurt yourself anymore. We will make it through this wicked killing game, and we'll do it together."
The petite girl looked up into her golden prince's blue eyes.
"I promise, Togami."
