POV KAYLA

We pulled into an alley a block away from the apartment.

"Thanks Commissioner."

"You're welcome kid. And if you ever need help, my door's always open."

He pulled out, as I started my walk home. I climbed the ladder that sat outside my window. Once I was inside I debated having a shower, but decided against it. It would be too loud. Plus I needed sleep. I guess 3 hours would have to do.

POV COMMISSIONER GORDON

After I dropped Kayla off, I headed to the Bat light. Hard to believe that the fastest way to contact Batman is via a bat-shaped globe. Anyway, I flicked it on. Now all I had to do was wait.

I didn't have to wait long before he showed up.

"Gordon." I jumped.

"Shit. How many times do I have to tell you. You're going to give me a heart attack."

"Commissioner, he does it to us at home. The man's incapable of change." said Nightwing, the original Robin. Its hard to keep up. His remark earned a glare from Batman.

"Moving on. Why are we here?" questioned the blunt unmistakable voice of Batman.

"We all know  it's no surprise that you enjoy caring for kids." The Blue Bird scoffed. "Well, I think I found another one for you." I finished.

"Do you have a profile?"

I handed him Kayla's profile. A spare I had made earlier.

"A girl. No special abilities, aged 17, with dead parents in the foster care system. What makes her any different?"

"She actually wants to do some good around here. And coming from the life she's had, and where she's grown up. That's saying a lot." I reasoned with him.

"Walker. Where do I know that name from?"

"Murder case. 7 years ago. Remains unsolved." Why does he always look so unimpressed?

"Look, I understand if your not interested. But just watch her. You never know."

He walked up to the ledge, followed by Nightwing.

"Thanks Gordon. Now go home. I'm sure your shift finished two hours ago."

With that, they jumped off. Vanishing for just a couple of seconds, before swinging to another building. Batman was right. My shift finished hours ago.

POV NIGHTWING - IN THE BATCAVE

I had gotten changed and was making my way down to Bruce. He'd researched this girl and brought up everything that there was on her. He was looking through some articles when I recognized her face.

"Wait go back. Wasn't she the girl that was following us earlier?"

"You're right."

"Did you hear that Alfred? I'm right."

I heard Bruce sigh. "She's enrolled at Shore Dock Collage. Lives in the run down part  of Gotham."

God. Losing your parents is hard enough. Not finding the killer makes it worse. Trust me, I come from a family that runs on stories like these.

"I'm not sure about her."

What does he mean? Is her life story not tragic enough for him.

"What do you mean you not sure? Bruce, you saw what she did tonight. She was able to keep up with us, and her combat skills are pretty good. I mean, I'm pretty sure she demolished the theft." I explained. "Will you at least watch her?"

I had seen her on my own patrols. She has skills and potential, Bruce just needs to see that.  He still hadn't spoken.

"We'll monitor her. But only for a week. I'm not making any promises." He got up out of his chair a left.

I guess that was as good as I was going to get.
