"Kanan?" Hera's voice came through his com as, he and the young boy made their way through the docking bay and onto the landing platform.
"In position Hera. Ready for pick up." Kanan responded, holding on tightly to Ezra's hand. "And hurry, we don't have much time."
"On my way love," Kanan returned his com to his belt buckle and filled his hand with his blaster instead.
"Get behind me kid. There could be trouble." The young boy did as he was told, and within seconds, half a dozen stormtroopers were firing at him and his rescuer. He watched in awe as the man who saved his life started gunning down troopers left and right. He admired every small detail of the action as a giant ship came into view. Everything seemed to move in slow motion, until a voice came through Kanan's com.
"Kanan there are too many of them, I can't get close to you. We need another plan." Kanan looked at his surroundings and got a crazy idea.
"I hear you Hera, we need to run a 22 pick up." There was a long pause over the line until Hera finally was able to gather her words.
"Are you serious Kanan?" The gunman rolled his eyes and huffed.
"You've got a better option?" Hera didn't answer which gave Kanan his answer. "I didn't think so." Kanan holstered his blaster and reached behind his back. Ezra looked scared beyond all doubt, and looked towards the brown-haired man for support and recognition, but only received Kanan's charming smile, and a wink of his eye. "Stay close to me kid, understand?" Ezra nodded and grabbed the older man by the hand.
Kanan's mind was rambling with the consequences of what his next action could possibly bring, but it was either save the kid with the one trick he had up his sleeve, or both of them would die. Kanan took a deep breath and grabbed the weapon that had been glued to his hip for as long as he could remember. Ezra stayed as close to Kanan as he possible could, as the older man walked right into the array of blaster fire, dodging each shot, as if it were a snowball fight.
The main trooper held his hand high, to signal his troops to cease fire. One of his troopers came up beside him.
"What is it sir? Is he surrendering?" The man shook his head.
"Not this rebel group, trooper. They're too high strung for that."
"Then what are they doing sir?" His commanding officer turned to the young trooper with a smile.
"Why don't we wait and find out." Once again everything was quiet and Kanan and Ezra stood tall in the center of the base. Ezra looked up to Kanan.
"Sir, what are we doing?" Kanan didn't take his eyes off of the imperial officer, but nevertheless answered the boys question.
"We're waiting for Hera's signal kid, and when that happens, our lives will change forever." A sudden voice came to Kanan's attention as the imperial trooper stepped forward.
"Insurgents, are you going to surrender? Or will we have to achieve our victory by force?" Kanan smiled mischievously as a buzzing feeling emerged from his belt buckle. He looked to Ezra and gave a nod. The young boy smiled and stayed on his toes. Kanan returned his gaze to the imperial trooper and laughed.
"How about, you surrender?" Within seconds, the Ghost appeared firing rapidly in the troopers direction, to get their attention off of Kanan and Ezra.
"Now love!" Hera ordered. Everything slowed to a standstill as a bright blue haze filled the corridor, as well as an electric humming. Everyone looked in the direction of Kanan. There he stood, lightsaber in hand, he was no long going to hide.
"All troopers, focus your fire on the Jedi!" The imperial officer ordered. His men did as they were told, but I was too late, the Jedi, and the boy had made their way to a cargo crate, and the ship had taken off with it.
The imperial officer looked to the sky with a fueling rage, welling up inside him. One of his men came up to him.
"Agent Kallus, what shall we do?" The man turned to his troop and smiled.
"I think it's time we give our Emperor a gift."
     "A gift sir?" Kallus smiled.
"Yes, that Jedi"s head on a plater."
