As all three of us walk in my family's house the atmosphere feels like the calm before the storm. I know that at any minute all hell will break loose.
"Is that little Channie? The sweetest little itty bitty boy?" I hear my mom yell from the hall.
"And so it begins," I warn Jisung, which only makes him smile wider.
Jisung turns to me, "I love this, this warm family home feeling. It's just like my home!"
My mom turns to Jisung a wide grin on her face, "Oh Jisung! You're here! Will you stay for dinner? Please? My husband is dying to meet you!"
"I was actually very jealous to hear my wife got to meet you before I did," my father calls out with a slight laugh in his voice. He reaches his hand out for Jisung to shake, "Its very good to meet you! I'm sure Y/N has told you all about how we can be overbearing, but rest assured she was telling the truth."
Jisung shakes my dads hand firmly, "Well, she didn't say overbearing per se, she just kinda said you guys were a little eccentric. Which I am all for!"
"So, this little dork met her soulmate before the one and only Christopher Bang met his," Taeil calls from the top of the stairs.
Chris chuckles, "And who says I haven't found my soulmate? I could have found my soulmate and you wouldn't be able to tell!"
Taeil cracks a smile, "I'm just messing with ya, Chris."
My mom clears her throat, "Dinners getting cold, you adorable little idiots."
With that we run to the dining room table where a spread of foods is laid out for us.
"Uhm, mom? Were you expecting me to bring guests or what?" I ask politely.
"Well sweetheart, I was expecting you to bring Jisung, but I had no clue you'd run into Chan! And I was so worried about what to make for Jisung. So I made what I could with what I bought today just to make sure something he likes would be on the table for him," Mom says sweetly and calmly. I can see Jisung melt more into his chair, he's in awe of my moms thoughtfulness and meals.
Chan smiles, "Well I'm sure Jisung would like anything you'd make for dinner, you are the best chef in Korea."
"Don't flirt with my wife Chan!" my dad jokes, I can tell how much they missed Chan coming around and being part of the family.
That's how the rest of the dinner went really, everyone catching up with Chan and grilling Jisung about him being good to me. Oh how I missed the dining room being this filled with laughter.
I can't stop myself from staring at Jisung  though, I can't tell if it's the way his smile creeps up to his eyes or the way his lips make the shape of a heart when he smiles. He has this tendency to throw his head back and laugh heartily, it's probably the cutest thing I've ever seen. The way he smiles and laughs and jokes with my family so easily. It makes me feel warm and glowy, like a still hot ember of a fire has taken my hearts place.
"Y/N~ you're staring again~ Am I really that pretty?" Jisung questions with a burst of giggles, "Awww look how pretty you are when you blush, those soft cheeks of yours are just so pink."
I feel heat rush to my cheeks faster than ever, "I mean you'd be prettier without food between your teeth, but go off I guess." I try to casually brush off the fact I was staring. I bring my hands to my cheeks hoping they're cool enough to subdue how blushed they are.
I feel Jisung's fingers at my wrist, pulling my hands away from my cheeks. Then I feel his breath next to my ear, "When you look as precious as you do now it makes me want to kiss you, even in front of your parents and especially in front of Chan." He caresses my cheek, his big beautiful eyes on me, I can't get lost in them again, I can't handle any more embarrassment. But what I don't understand is why Jisung is jealous of Chris, Chris has always been like an older brother to me.
"So my wife tells me you two met in the ice cream shop, is that right?" My father asks, beaming with curiosity.
Jisung looks at him with a small smile, "Yes, yes we did. It's my family's ice cream shop, we just opened not too long ago. It was magical, sir. Your daughter is the most beautiful girl I've ever seen, sir." He giggles sweetly, "She also is
super funny and smart and weird and caring."
My fathers smile holds a bit of smug pride, his eyes have a mischievous glint to them, the way they always do. "Well Jisung, I take that as a personal compliment, since she is my daughter and all," he says with a wink.
Jisung blushes, his whole face growing pink, "I had hoped you'd accept my compliment, sir."
"Oh you don't have to keep calling me sir, Dad works just fine for me," my dad chuckles lightly.
"You can call me mom too! I hope you will, Jisung," my mom beams, her smile blindingly bright. There's pride in her eyes and I can't tell if she's more proud of me or more proud of herself.
Taeil butts in, "So does that mean more family dinners like this? With everyone here? Cause I'd love that."
"Well I for one would love to start coming around like I did as a kid, I'm sure Felix would too" Chris answers, but I don't think he fully understood what Taeil meant.
Jisung glares at Chris before replying with a small smile, "I will definitely be back for more time with you guys, especially if it means seeing Y/N." I see a faint blush on his cheeks, he really means what he's saying, I can't help but inwardly coo at him and how cute he is.
As everyone finishes their dinner Mom asks me to help her with the clean up, probably to gossip about Jisung and Chris and the obvious tension between them. Which I find totally unnecessary, I'm not Chris's soulmate and he's not mine.
"Why is Jisung so jealous of Chan?" Mom asks wiping her brow with a sudsy hand, "Just why?"
"Beats me mom," I answer, "Well actually maybe it's because Chan and I are childhood friends and we're so close and Jisung and I have just met so we're still getting to know each other."
She hums in agreement, "That might be it, but soulmates are meant to be a different kind of close than best friends."
I look at her solemnly, "I'm not sure but, I think it'll probably pass quickly. I already adore Jisung so much, mom, it hasn't even been a day since we met and ugghhh, he's just so amazing."
"Tell me about him then, describe the him you see to me."
"Well he's obviously handsome, and he's got this infectious laugh. It's like music to my ears, and he's got a heart shaped smile and when I look at him it's like all the world melts away and colors swirl around him and I just can't help but stare, especially at his eyes they always seem to be wide, like he's surprised all the time but in the most adorable of ways."
She smiles softly while I talk about him, "That's how I felt when I first met your father, to me he's the best and the only man."
I laugh, "I always told you I wanted a love story like yours and dads."
"And here you are, having a love story greater than mine and your fathers," she says, tears welling in her eyes.
The door opens behind us, it's just Chris. He looks mildly uncomfortable, he's kinda pouting too, and I'm not gonna lie, it's a hilarious sight to see.
"I don't think Jisung likes me very much," he says flatly, still staring at me while pouting.
I laugh, "You have to give it more than a day, he's going to warm up to you. I'll even bet money that next week you guys are going to be the new dynamic duo."
  Chan giggles, "You really think?"
"I know he will," I smile at him, god why is my best friend such a dumbass.
"I just really want my best friend's soulmate to like me, he seems like such a cool guy," Chris pouts again, "There's just something different about him, and it makes me want to be his friend so badly."
I ruffle his hair, "I know."
