Wes

I stepped into the room and released a sigh of relief, finally seeing Adelle with my own eyes.

These last few hours have been complete torture. They wouldn't let me see her. I begged and pleaded to no avail. Immediate family only. I met her mother when I came in with Adelle. She was a pediatric nurse. I really didn't want to meet her that way but it happened. So there I was, probably gaping at Adele with unguarded puppy dog eyes.

"Wes," that was all she said. My name. And it nearly brought me to my knees with relief and what I was coming to realizes now as love. And that terrifies me. I've never felt an emotion so strong.

We just stared at each other for a minute before finally I regained enough sense to walk to her bedside and sit in the empty chair.

"Are you okay?" I asked softly.

"I am now." A small smile lit up her eyes and my heart beated faster.

"They wouldn't let me see you even though I begged," my voice wavered at the end. I looked away but my gaze was brought back to hers as Adelle's small hand folded over mine.

"I can't imagine you begging."

"Well I did. I bugged the nurses so much I'm surprised they didn't kick me out." I smiled softly, still in shock that I was seeing her.

"Thank you," All humor was gone from her eyes when she murmured those two words.

"You don't have to thank me. I like playing the knight in shining armor," I smirked, earning myself a scathing look.

"Wes! I'm serious I could have died!" Her beautiful blue eyes were open wide when I leaned over and placed a light kiss on her forehead. Smiling I slowly pulled away.

"I know love, trust me, I know."

"I told you not to call me that," Adelle's response was breathy.

"Ah but you know I never listen," and I winked, loving her reaction.

"Wes!"

"What?" I innocently held up my hand.

"You're impossible," Adelle muttered.

I simply smiled, she didn't even realize she was still holding my hand.

Slowly the door creaked open and Adelle's mom poked her head in. Quickly and jerkily Adelle pulled back her hand. I tried to pretend it didn't hurt.

"The nurse says we can go home now. Their giving me the rest of the day off," her mom said, coming fully into the room. I took that as my cue to leave and stood up.

"Where are you going?" Adelle's alarmed eyes locked on mine.

"Home?" It came out as a question.

"Oh," Adelle looked uncertain and I saw a war waging in her mind, "Do you want to watch a movie?" She suddenly blurted. " I mean would you like to come over and watch a movie so I don't die of boredom?" Adelle repeated when she saw my confused expression.

"Of course, if that is alright with your mother?" I turned, looking at her mom.

"Sure is! I need someone to entertain Adelle so she doesn't drive me crazy!" She replied with a smile that crinkled her eyes. This woman looked so familiar.

"Mom!" Adelle groaned, covering her eyes. I chuckled at her theatrics.

"You," she pointed at me, "Don't say a word."

"Yes Adelle." I lowered my head fighting a smile but losing the battle. She was just so damn cute!
