Adelle

I was oddly anxious to see Wes today.  But also overwhelmingly nervous.  How could I face him after yesterday?  How could I talk to him like nothing happened when we both knew he almost kissed me?  I had no right to even think of being with him.  We were on two different levels.  He would never want to be with a girl like me.  He was drop dead gorgeous and I was not.  It's not like I had low self esteem, I just knew where I stood in popularity.

By then it was fourth period and I was at my wits end; my hands were shaking, I felt like I couldn't get enough air in my lungs, and I was fully consumed with anxiety. I couldn't concentrate in class and Abby seemed to notice.

"Adelle what is going on with you today?"  She whispered into my ear.  "You barely ate anything at lunch and you've been so fidgety it's driving me crazy!"

"It's nothing Abby,"  I mumbled, feeling embarrassed.

"Yes it is..."  She trailed off,  "Oh my gosh! Is it a boy?!" She squealed, and looking at my face just confirmed her guess.

"Holy crap you never get this worked up over a boy!"  Abby was ecstatic, "Tell me all about him!  I want to know all the details. What is his name? Does he go to our school? Is he in our grade?" Her torrent of questions kept coming.

"Abby!" I cut her off,  "He is just a boy that I have to do a stupid project with.  And he is so arrogant!  He only talks about himself and is never serious."

"Some how I don't believe you,"  Abby's eyes danced with mischief.

"Abby what are you going to do?"  I groaned.

"Oh nothing, I need you to tell me the truth. So I was just going to tell the whole class about your obsession with Jake Mathews freshman year,"  Abby finished with a innocent smile.

I narrowed my eyes at her, "You wouldn't!"

"Try me."  Abby stood up and opened her mouth -she was really going to do it- I grabbed her arm and yanked her back to her seat.

"Abby!" I hissed. She just laughed.

"Abby, Adelle is everything okay back there?"  Asked Ms. Berk, our science teacher. I recovered first,

"Yup everything is fine," Ms. Berk continued teaching.  I turned back to Abby, "Not cool."

"It had to be done,"  She shrugged. "Now tell me all about your mystery man."

"Fine,"  I groaned, seeing no way out of it. "His name is Wes-"  at this Abby practically squealed.

"Oh my gosh he sounds perfect already!'

"Okay do you want to hear about him or not?"

"Of course!"

"Then let me talk. His name is Wes, he is in my fifth hour history class. He's a junior but I don't know his age although I'm guessing it's around the same as mine. And he just happens to be drop dead gorgeous."

"How did I miss him?"  Abby complained.

"He always ditches school,"  I explained.

"Oh a bad boy, I see Adelle,"  Abby winked at me.

"No I don't like him!"  I protested again. Not only trying to fool Abby but myself as well.

"Sure just keep telling yourself that honey,"  Abby pats my hand.

       ...

I groan when the bell rings.

"Oh don't be so dramatic he is just a boy," Then Abby laughed, "Who am I kidding, this Wes is obviously more than that."
