After a the first week of school I felt like I was starting to get the hang of the 11th grade. I didn't have that much homework since it has only been the first week of school.
It is hard to believe that in one month it will be time to take the aptitude test to see which faction I should belong in.
The test is a preparation for the choosing ceremony which is six days after the aptitude test. I have never been so nervous in my life that I am about the test and choosing ceremony.
What if I find out that I belong to a different faction and leave behind my family? I just wonder if Caleb is as nervous as I am about it but probably not because he never really gets nervous about things.
Right now it is Saturday and it is a lousy day. It is raining out and there is nothing to do.
I laid on my bed till Caleb walked in slowly.
"Hey, Beatrice ." He said quietly.
"Can we play a board game together?" He asked.
"Oh yeah...sure."
I got down on my knees and pulled a board game from under my bed.
I pulled out the one that was me and Caleb's favorite.
The board game was created in 1971. It was my mothers when she played it as a kid. When Caleb saw the one I pulled out his whole face lit up.
"I was hoping it was going to be that one." He said. For the next couple hours we sat on the floor and played.
This was another ordinary day.
--
On Monday something incredible happened.
I was at lunch when I felt a motion on the right side of me.
I looked over and saw a bright girl with shoulder length red hair right beside me.
She looked at me and smiled.
Everything about her was bright.
"Hi!" She said.
"Oh, hi." I said putting down my sandwich onto the tray.
"My name is Brooklyn, what's your name?"
"Tris."
"Cool."
"So tris, are you new?"
"No, why would you think that?"
"Oh I just thought you were because you were sitting here all alone."
"Oh." I mumbled.
"So if your not new then...why are you sitting over here all alone? Where are your friends at?"
"I don't really have any friends." I said.
"Oh why not?" She asked surprisingly.
"I don't know. I just don't really like people I guess."
"Well I came over here so you wouldn't be lonely and I'd love to get to know you because you seem pretty cool.
But if your not comfortable with me sitting here and talking to you then I can leave, so do you want me too leave?"
I looked up out the huge window on the wall a little ways I front of me.
After a minute I turned my head and looked at her. She looked concerned.
Brooklyn seems like a nice person.
And I really do want to get to know her too. Also maybe I could use a friend...
Especially one that's like her.
"I don't mind a bit." I said.
"Oh that's great!" She said cheerfully.
For a while we talked to each other.
We told each other our thoughts, interests, and opinions on many things.
This is definitely the best lunch I had ever had.
I'm glad I Made the decision of inviting her into my life.
