There wasn't a single connection to be made amongst their three victims, other than their cause of death and their killer.
She still wanted to go after Reynolds, but Barnes was really digging in his heels.
"You can't just run at a big CEO like him," the older detective had said.
She knew he was right, but that didn't mean she had to like it.
Nor did she necessarily have to listen to him.
A big CEO like Reynolds was bound to be making millions of dollars a year.
It didn't make much sense that he would want Amy's access code when he had so much money, but he certainly had the funds to pay off a hired assassin.
Maybe it didn't have to make sense.
Maybe he was just greedy.
God, she wanted to look into that man. She wanted to see his financials.
But she'd never be able to get a warrant for that. Not unless she had more to go on than a gut feeling.
No, she'd have to forget about going through the proper channels.
Maybe she could ask someone else, someone who had access to those kinds of things.
She knew just the person.
