Chapter 7
Reality is everything because reality is life. People see the world in two types of ways, as an Idealist or a Realist. I myself think I'm more of a Realist than a Idealist. I see things in the plain black and white atmosphere and usually don't try to sugar-coat the real image. I believe in most books and movies, even though the character is a Realist, the book or movie is sugar-coated. I bet it's not just me who reads a book or watches a movie and says "damn, that guy/girl has a pretty good life." or "ohh I wish my life was so peaceful/cool like his/hers."
We say that because the characters life is always is in the sunlight. The character never gets into the shade. No matter what theirs always some part that isn't real-life enough. It could be because of one little thing the director or author left out that makes all the difference.
(Here are the definitions of Idealism and Realism.)
Idealism: behavior or thought based on a conception of things as they should be, or as one would wish them to be, with a tendency to be imaginary or visionary.
Realism: behavior or thought based on a conception of things as they are, regardless of how one wants them to be, with a tendency to be practical and pragmatic.
If is very rare to find someone who is completely 100% only one of the characteristics. Everyone probably has their main one but theirs still a little part of them inside who's the opposite characteristic.
Reality in Books
Theirs of course different types of books. Different types of genre's, plot lines and authors. I'm most focusing on books that are written in present day or could-be-real present day setting. Books that are about vampires, school, jobs etc... Most times those types of books are made to make it look like whatever's happening could be happening on Earth right then and now.
The sad fact about these books are most of them are doing the exact opposite of what real life people would do. Here's an example. (I'm not going to put titles because that's rude and I don't have the authors permission.) Currently I'm reading a vampire slave book. This book is great, wonderful and good but, theirs one thing that makes me feel like this couldn't be real.
Now most of you guys are gonna be like "a harr harr duh because their vamps idiot", but I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about how the character always deals with the situations. Honestly if you were kidnapped, would you automatically do what your kidnapper or "master" said? Would you slap your new "owner"?
No probably not. I mean in my thoughts (these are mine not yours so don't be like "but I wouldn't do that etc..") I wouldn't immediately listen. I would run into the corner and try to hide. I would try to escape. I wouldn't let their filthy hands touch me. Even if they punished me and I because obedient I would still in my head be thinking of my game plan to escape. I wouldn't kiss a guy I just met 15 minutes ago.
All these books have stupid crap in them that always stop me and and make me think "if this truly realistic?"
I mean come on, your boss isen't going to just give you a raise because he said you looked pretty today. Your not going to be 15 doing drugs in sleeping in your basement when the first chapter said you have parents who are always consistently checking on you and your bedroom is upstairs.
Authors make up all this junk that coudn't be true. Like who's parents just let them walk to McDonald's 2 miles away when they were 8 years old. And then two pages later in the book the parents are like "how could he have been killed or kidnapped?". Like WTF idiots don't let a little kid walk to places by himself.
Other books state it's 20 million years in the future and theirs slaves again and flying cars but then the iPhone 7 comes out, like dude are you serious? You can't make all this cool stuff then add in something from 20 million years ago. Like it won't still exist or at least that version won't. Its like writing a book that's in 2014 but then saying that their ways still huge clunky phones and only black and white T.V's existed. I mean unless you state that its a mix of the old, new and future then you can't go mixing different products together that was made in different years that don't go with your book setting.
