Father Anderson:
Today was a beautiful sunny day in London, a rare sight given it was rainy the last few weeks. I was working on adoption forms, when a knock came from my door.
" Come on in."
It was a resident sister who helped care for the kids, Sister Natalie. She was young, being only 29, but she was fully devoted to the Sisterhood.
" Hello, Sister, how can I help you?"
" There's a new arrival, Father. A female teenager who's proving to be a bit snarky and has a serious attitude problem."
" Bring me to her, Sister."
I get up and follow. We sometimes housed teenagers who had failed in the foster care system, and often just needed a place to live until they turned 18 and could go about life in their own time. I get down the stairs, and had to do a double take. She was pale, much like the undead, her smile was sharp, fanged even, her hair a mass of black curls that looked to move on it's own, eyes the color of fresh blood, and her black fashion shirt with red jacket did nothing to make me relax. She looked exactly like Alucard, the damnable pet vampire of Hellsing, down to even the malicious teasing in her eyes. I walked over carefully, her face was in a scowl and the death glare was almost fear inducing. The closer I got, the more the similarities popped out and she smelled like lavender strangely enough.
" Ah, Father Anderson, wonderful to see you."
I look to see it was the usual worker from Child Services, Jenna.
" Wonderful to see you too, Miss Jenna. Who is this young lass?"
" My name is Sânge Diavol. Look, lady, you ain't leaving me here to rot for 6 months. I told you and the judge, just make me an emancipated minor, and I would be fine."
" Sânge, you were just checked out of a mental institution. You are to remain in custody until you are deemed sane enough to take care of yourself and not be a threat to society. I am seriously hoping some time around the good Father here will help fix your sour disposition and curb your violent tendencies."
" I can't be near holy relics, I've told you this thousands of times! They burn my skin badly, not to mention how I can't even touch a fuckin' bible."
" Language, young lady! I understand what happened to you was tragic, but it gives you no right to be vulgar."
" Orice, pizdă." ( Whatever, cunt.)
" Hey, watch it. I know Romanian, so don't think that slipped by. I got it from here, Jenna."
I was given the usual folder. " Thank you, Father. You really are a Godsend."
Sânge rolled her eyes, and crossed her arms over her chest, hiding her face by looking at the floor. I opened it, and read the informational briefing on the front. It says her mother was a cultist who was a vampire worshiper, and back when she had been 13, she was removed from the home when Sânge went to school drinking blood from a thermos. She has been in numerous fights, even almost killing kids, and was incarcerated in a mental hospital for three years, released on good behavior and was being sent here as a last ditch effort to make her into a decent citizen. This explains her name, her appearance, and why she acted like she did.
" Sânge, do you have a nickname you prefer to be called?"
" Only one. Thorn. My mom called me 'No-Life Princess', but I hate it."
" Alright, Thorn, follow me to your room."
She followed silently, even her steps were barely there, despite her steel toe boots. Her mother's entitlement as 'No-Life Princess' made me very worried. Did she know Alucard? Did he choose her as his mate when she got of age? Or was this because of the bullshit she was possibly fed from her crazed mother? We got to the room closest to mine and farthest from the other kids, and I opened the door for her.
" Can you remove the holy relics and stuff, please? It really does hurt to touch or be around."
I tucked my cross away, and removed the crucifix and picture of the virgin Mary. I would humor her, make it easier for her and myself. She smiled, and it reminded me of a shark, her teeth were pointed, but not so much so it looked out of place, aside from her canines.
" Are your canines natural or cosmetic?"
" They're real. I was muzzled at the hospital because they were worried I'd bite someone."
" Would you have?"
" Only if they tried to hurt me or touch my food."
" And your eyes, same thing?"
" I was born with albinism, but I dyed my hair black to blend in better. I need to redo the dye every few months. I just did it, having been freshly released from the hospital today."
" You don't think you are a vampire, do you?"
" My mother thought so, she said my father was the 'No-Life King'."
" And your mother was human, right?"
" Yeah, but she was quacked out her gourd."
" Do you have any bags downstairs?"
" Nope. I own only what's on my back."
" Alright, I'll take you shopping here in an hour. My room in across the hall, and my office is the last door on the right. You can stay in here until then. You have your own bathroom away from the rest of the orphanage. TV has local cable, and if you find the Bible, just leave it, and I can remove it later."
" You are the first person to believe me about that. Why?"
" I don't see a point in trying to fight with you, and who am I to judge? You might get burned, who knows? Your mother was a cultist, who knows what weird shit she pulled. Also, you have freedom to speak how you want, just watch your mouth around the Sisters and the kids, alright?"
" Thanks, and sure. See you in an hour, yeah?"
" An hour. If I don't come to collect you, alert me, alright?"
" Ok."
I closed her door, and went back to my office, and sitting in my chair, made a call to Hellsing.
