White light struck his face as he peeled open his eyes for a fraction of a second, only to squeeze them shut again. He felt light-headed and everything seemed to be spinning around him. It took him a few seconds to adjust and when he felt comparitively better, he gave one more try at opening his eyes to see where he was.
Perseus could hear faint voices all around him and the surroundings were rather unfamiliar to him. Gradually, the voices grew louder and someone approached him, "oh, you're awake. Finally."
Then as soon as it had appeared, the face disappeared and Perce blinked twice, uncertain whether he was actually awake or not.
As his vision adjusted, he saw that he was in a massive white room with similar white beds decked all around. People in white were roaming back and forth, and the whole scene seemed unearthly to him as he had never been to a hospital ward before.
He tried to sit up but a sharp wave of pain coursed through his veins, making it impossible for him to move even.
"Perseus!"
He recognized the voice and cautiously tilted his head to see Demelza. Belvina and Herbert were right behind her and all of them looked equally worried.
"Wh-where... Am I?" His voice was hoarse and it took him some effort to speak as well.
"You're at St Mungo's," she replied.
"Why?"
"You fell down the whole flight of stairs, son," Herbert answered, "we were afraid that you'd injured yourself badly so we had to bring you here."
He tried to recall but his memory seemed like a blank haze.
Belvina reached forward and gently took his hand in hers, "how are you feeling now, dear?"
Perseus was about to answer but then he noticed that Nathan was not with them. And soon as he struck upon that realization, last night's events flashed in front of his eyes.
He recalled exactly why he had fallen down the stairs and the words that sinister voice had uttered came rushing back to him:
And do you know who's death it's going to be? Nathan Whitburg!
"Nathan!" He almost shouted, his voice cracking as he could feel his throat ripping from the inside, "where's Nathan?"
"Calm down Perce, he's right here," Demelza spoke, the three of them were quite alarmed at the sudden outburst.
"No, no... Nathan... I have to see him. I... I... Where is he?" Perseus's blue eyes reflected frustration as they frantically darted around the room, searching for Nathan.
"What has happened, Perseus?" Belvina spoke, "why are you suddenly behaving like this?"
He tried to sit up immediately and in his haste he had forgotten about the pain he had felt earlier when he had tried to move. Soon as he lifted himself a little, excruciating pain shot up his spine again. The pain was unbearable to him as he fell back on the bed, eyes widening in agony. Anxious due to his worsening state, Herbert went to call a Healer.
"He'll kill him," his voice had started to fade to a rasp, "he'll kill him if I don't get to him in time. I have to... I have to warn... I..."
The Healer had come rushing to his bed, alerted by the sudden outburst. Perseus had gone in a state of subconsciousness, mumbling incoherently. He had to be given a sedative and a painkiller potion in order to soothe his frayed nerves.
"Any sort of trauma or shock isn't good for Perseus," the Healer turned to face them, "please try not to get him so worked up. He had suffered a concussion therefore he has to be given extreme care."
