1. Never hurt, hunt a human without reason.
2. Never suck a human dry.
3. Never expose who we are to the world.
4. Never kill one among us without a reason.
5. Never, ever get involved in a relationship with a human except friendship.
Those were all important rules to be followed. If broken, all you could do was beg for the High Council to forgive and forget, make them see it your way or be dead. Almost every one of us has broken rules number one and two, nobody really cares because the High Council understands our thirsts, it is what makes us the monsters we are.
What are we?
We’re vampire’s baby.
Vampires.
We are monsters, every one of us, built to suck every human dry. But those, free feeding times were over. We must let the humans live, we usually succeed. But mostly don’t, so we just bury the bodies and hope nobody will find them.
Two out of ten humans in this world knows that vampires exist. Those are who we call 'Hunters', they are trained to kill us, but they must have a reason why. The reason could be sucking a human dry.
I lied, some people do care. Humans. They care. But they can’t kill us without reason either, they have to actually see us kill the humans, or harm them. But some hunters don’t care about that stupid rule and just take or kill us. Some humans don’t kill you right on the spot; if they are cruel they will bring you back to one of their cells and let you dry slowly, without blood or food. We usually die in two or three months, some last longer and some don’t, and some just kill themselves or run while they still can. But nobody will understand the monster that lives inside us, nobody but us.
I was in the forest walking near the roads unseen. I was here for air, not an animal or human. I wasn’t thirsty, yet. I skip around, suddenly, my cellphone rings. I fetch it out of my purse. It was my fiancé Antonio, “Hello?”
“Where are you, love?” He asked.
“Home,” I lied, I didn’t want him to come after me, worrying that I might get attacked by hunters. I believed I was safe.
“Liar, I’m in your room right now, freaking out.”
“I’m sorry! I’ll come back in a couple of minutes, okay?”
“You better.”
“Bye!”
“Love you.”
“I love you too,” I said and ended the call. I was seventeen and a half, I know I know. I’m too young to get married, but hey. This is the vampire world okay? Also, my father had agreed to the marriage and had even said Antonio was a great guy.
A branch snaps behind me, I swirled around in alarm. It was a bird, a harmless bird; it was pecking something red on the ground. I smelt blood, but I was sure it was from the bird. My curiosity got the best of me and I went closer to get a better view.
A dead human body, I gasp; my heart pumped against my chest in fear. I walked closer, I wanted to help, and he was still alive. But my vampire self was not thinking the same. My hands curled into fists as I smelt the blood. Don’t do this. Walk away! Now!
But the next thing I know, I was crouching down with my arms around his shoulders. I dip my head down to his neck without a second thought.
I felt a presence behind me. Before I could turn around and see, they whacked something hard against my head. My vision blurred, but I wasn't out. I stood up and looked around, but all I heard was laughter. Hunters.
