That was... perfect.

Jude

After breakfast the next morning, Ryan asked me a question.

"Hey, there's an open mic night next week, right?"

"Yeah, why?"

"Not a lot of people know this, but I sing and I kinda want to participate."

"Really? Sing something."

"Okay, um," After thinking of something, he sings, and his voice was deep, but soft at the same time. It was beautiful.

"Wow, your voice is amazing! You should totally do it!"

"Really?" He replied trying (and failing) to hide his blush.

"Yeah! What are you going to sing?"

"It's a surprise."

Ryan

Is this really how I'm going to tell him, or should I just play it safe?

Nah, playing it safe is for losers.

Jude looks at me, his eyes sparkling, and I look away, hiding my blush

Maybe it's not.

No, stop it, Ryan, you are doing this, whether you like it or not!

I hope he'll know what I'm trying to say.

Should I play the piano, too?

"-yan? RYAN!"

I snap back into reality, and I've, apparently, been zoned out for a while, so now we're running late for school.

"What? Oh, I'm sorry, I zoned out without even realizing."

"It's ok. Now we're even!" He replied.

He's so cute.

Jude

Why does science class have to be so boring?

Meh, at least I sit next to Ryan.

"What're you humming?" I say, not caring about the lesson.

"Uh, nothing. You wouldn't know it."

"Try me."

"It's called Euphoria."

"You were right. I don't know it."

"I'm sorry what was that? I couldn't hear you."  I said, knowing that Jude isn't the type to admit it when he's wrong.

"Shut up," Jude replied, not wanting to say it again.

Ryan

"What's up, losers?" Annita says as she walks up to the lunch table.

"The sky," Jude responds.

"Wouldn't it be the ceiling, since we're inside?" I jump in.

"Yes," Annita replies. "Yes, it would be."

Jude rolls his eyes and changes the subject. "Ryan's doing the open mic!"

"Really? I didn't know you could sing!"

"I don't sing much, though."

"He has a wonderful voice." Jude jumps in.

"Sing for us!" Annita suggested.

I laugh and say, "No, you'll have to wait."

"Ugh, you're no fun," Annita replies with an exaggerated pout.

"I was also thinking about playing the piano."

"You can do that too?" Jude asked and I nodded.

"No need to brag," Annita replied sarcastically.

Jude

The bell rings, and we head to math class.

Once we get there, Ryan and I sit down and finish the warmup that was given to us, but, I'm too busy overthinking, to notice that Ryan's trying to get my attention.

"Hello? Jude?"

"What?"

"What'd you get for number 3?" Ryan asks, referring to the warmup.

"45%. Why?"

"Really? I got that too!" Ryan says, a little too excited.

"You're acting like getting a question right is rare!"

"It is!"

"No, whenever Mrs.G asks a question to the class, you pretty much always say the right answer to yourself."

"You hear that?"

Before I could reply, the teacher interrupts, "Boys! Stop talking!" The teacher said.

"Sorry, Mrs.G," We both say in unison.

Do you know how pretty much every school has that one teacher everyone hates, even the ones that don't have them? That's Mrs.G.

The final bell rings, and all of the students let out a sigh of relief in unison.

--

As Ryan and I are walking home, I decided to ask him a very risky question.

"Hey, uh, Ryan?"

Shit, there's no going back now.

"What's up?"

Fuck it.

"Have you ever questioned your sexuality?"

Ryan

Sirens go off in my head as I try and recollect my thoughts.

Taken aback by the question, I reply "Uh, I've never really thought about it before..."

"...But, I don't think I'm straight."
