One Day At A Time One Shot
Although you were nervous to meet your girlfriend's family, she was far more nervous than you could ever imagine you would be. Elena had met your parents a couple of weeks ago and everything went perfectly well, all of your nerves being for nothing as they loved her, and she got along well with them. However now that it was her turn to introduce you to her family, she was terrified about everything going wrong. Whenever you asked her about it, she listed off everything that her mother and grandmother would love about you along with everything you'd love about them but would quickly turn around to thinking how terrible things would go.
She had been nervously rambling about the meeting all day, and now that the two of you were outside of her apartment door, she stopped, unable to go any further due to how concerned she was.
"What if you hate them?" She whispered. "What if they hate you?"
You gave her a soft smile, your own nerves having become settled, far more worried about Elena having a breakdown than if her mum and nan would like you. It was an irrational worry as she had already assured you that they liked you from what she told them, but you understood that things weren't always as simple as that, especially when it came over anxieties.
"It's going to be okay Elena," you smiled. "Even Alex has said that I will love them."
Her younger brother had showed regret in the fact that you would get along so well with their mum and nan but even if it was something he wouldn't look forward to, it was reassuring for you both.
"It's going to be okay?" She said with a quizzical tone.
"It's going to be okay," you assured.
Elena took a deep breath before pushing open her front door, not turning back. The apartment was exactly how you imagined it, homely and charming. Through the hatch at the opposite end of the room you saw two women in the kitchen, preparing a meal.
"Mama, Abuelita," Elena called out, closing the door behind the two of you.
"Elena," her mother called rushing out into the living room, Elena's grandmother following behind her.
"Is this her?" Her grandmother smiled.
Her arms wrapped around you, squeezing you far tighter than you thought a woman of her stature could squeeze.
"I'm Lydia," she said. "Welcome to the family."
As soon as she let go, you smiled to your girlfriend, glad to see her happy expression, glad that things did actually go as well as you imagined it would.
