PART TWO

Ever since Seth asked me to go on a date with him, I've been ecstatic. Seth Hutchings asked me out on a date! Seth Hutchings told me he was crazy for me! Now, it's Friday. And I'm wishing it's everything but Friday. You must think I'm insane. I finally get to go on a date with Seth Hutchings and I don't want to. But I have a valid reason why!

I am hideous.

Trust me, I've never been the super pretty girl we all know. But I've also never been unattractive, so to speak.  I've always been that girl who is pretty some boys and who isn't pretty to others. Average so to say. But today, I am hideous.

I woke up this morning with a rat's nest for hair. The dark circles under my eyes from staying up late thinking about Seth are full force today. My skin is pale and ghostly. Of course, that can all be fixed with heat and makeup. But worst of all, I have no clothes. I had a perfect outfit picked out for tonight. And then I woke up this morning and my outfit was disgusting! I figured after I got home, I could just think of another outfit.

That wasn't the case at all. There was only one thing to do, only one person to call.

"Jai!" I cried when he finally answered the phone. "Come pick me up right now and take me to the mall!"

Jai was silent for a beat before answering, "Shouldn't you be getting ready for your date with Sethy poo?"

I rolled my eyes. "I don't call him that. And yes, I already did my makeup and my hair, but I need to buy a new outfit for it! Have you seen my wardrobe?"

"You dress fine, Ari."

"You're a boy you know nothing about fashion."

"Bye."

Panic filled me. "No! Jai, wait!"

"I'm listening."

"Please help me. I really want this date to go well," I pleaded. Jai was a year older than all of us and he could already drive. Both my parents weren't home, they had taken my monster little twin brothers to their soccer game, so all I had left was Jai. Besides, it'd be nice to go with my best friend to shop for a date outfit.

Jai sighed. "Fine. Get out, I'll be waiting."

I laughed happily and hung up the phone. I sprayed extra sea salt spray in my hair before sprinting out of the house. I locked the door before hopping into Jai's car. We drove in silence to the mall, which was only ten minutes away. It was a comfortable silence. We didn't have anything to say. We were just enjoying each other's company in silence.

The shopping happened in a blur. Jai had quickly thrown things into my dressing room at Forever 21 until I had an outfit that I liked. When we had decided on ripped black jeans and an olive green lace up top, Jai had driven me quickly out to the movie theater where Seth wanted to meet.

"Have fun, okay?" Jai said, stopping me just before I got out of the car. I smiled and poked his cheek.

"You sound like my mother," I teased.

Jai pretended to wipe a tear away. "You just grow up so fast!" I leaned over and pressed a kiss on Jai's cheek. I smiled at him before hopping out of the car. I stood on the curb and watched Jai's car speed away. As Jai's car disappeared from my view, I heard someone call my name.
