This morning, I woke up, did chores.

Then I felt the craving to listen to Listen by Stonefree. It is an OPM (Original Pinoy Music) song. I used to play this when I used to be a dj. As a dj, we have a song rotation to follow. Like what type of song shall be played within the duration of an hour. You can start with three to four songs with the same music genre. Then put in a floater or a stager (short station i.d sounds) before playing a new set of 3 to 4 songs with a different genre than the previous one. But in an hour, you have to at least play one OPM song, either mid hour or the last song before the next hour.

My first love of music wasn't a love song nor pop nor r&b. It was alternative rock music. Yes I was that teenage rock chick. Those were good times when my only worry was coming up with a great boardwork (radio show). 🥰

Listen was such a catchy song back then in the early 2000. So it was fun playing it. The song also has an ironic meeting. I don't even know why I like the song. I think it's that clichè of needing someone to listen to you when somebody leaves you. But then if you try to ponder more on the song's meaning, he is being unfair to that girl he is seeking help. Like what if she catches feelings right? Coz the song ended with the guy still loving the girl who had his heart broken. Something I can relate to. 😆 Both on the giving and receiving end.

Plus that guitar intro was dope. During battle of the bands or when we feature amateur band at the booth, I would be in awe of any band who plays Listen.

And the band name Stonefree kinda led us to think they quit taking stones, if you know what I mean. So may God guide them on that. Ameen.

Moreover, on our daily top 10 hits, this song was part of it for like 2 weeks.

Anyway, here's the lyrics:

listen by stonefree

I.
close the door
i feel a breeze hold me please
i hate to be alone
it's a cold night,
turn off the light
come take my hand and...

(chorus)
listen,
to these things i have to say
please understand, she
left me all alone again...

II.
clear the room of every memory
i don't want our song back on
it's an endless maze
take away this haze
mend my heart and...
(repeat chorus 2x)

turn away, don't want you to see me cry
i just want things the way they were
why is it so hard to say goodbye?
wipe my tears and...
(repeat chorus2x)

so this i ask of you
please stay with me
until she comes back
until she comes
until she comes back
until she comes
please listen and stay
until she comes
until she comes back
until she comes back...

The song teaches us how love can be martyrsome or selfish, accomodating but stupid, stupid and tolerant.
