<---Kelsey's POV--->

It was supposed to be the best day of my life. I was so excited about it and about everything that it seemed impossible that it could happened on that day.

I was getting ready for my birthday in my room. I was wearing a red ballroom dress and had a red ribbon that matched it around my neck.

Mother said it was hers when she was my age and wore it on her seventeenth birthday as well. I invited everyone that I know to the party. I invited my friends Marcy and Shawn too.

My two older brothers and younger sister were waiting for me along with the party guests. They said that they would come and get me when it was time. I didn't know what they had meant by that, but I did have a thing for surprises so I didn't really care.

I was now dressed and ready for tonight. I sat down on my bed and waited for them to approach my bedroom door and take me down to the ballroom.

There was nothing. It was silent and it was very strange considering that there was music playing a second ago. I decided to peek outside the door and heard something so terrifying I wanted to cry. But I didn't. I heard a scream of terror coming from...the ballroom!!

I ran down stairs and hid behind a wall. Lucky for me I forgot my shoes so nobody could hear me. People were running and carrying their children in their arms and running out of the door. I found out why. There were a group of men holding weapons in their hands. They were pointed right at my older brother Randy.

"Kelsey." My mother whispered taking my hand and racing to her room.

"Mom why are those men here?" I asked as tears rolled down my face.

"There here for you and I can't let them get their hands on my darling girl. Now please listen to my words. There is a man named Kaien Cross. He is the creator of Cross academy."

"But you know I can't attend human schools. I'm a vampire. A pure blood! I won't be able to resist." I said as she took me into her room and opened a secret door inside of her closet. But it was blended into the wall. So no human could see it.

"You'll meet him at the lake house. But you'll have to run as fast as you can to it. So the men can't find you!" She was crying as she told me. Tears were rushing out of her deep blue eyes. I was scared that I was never going to see her again.

"Your father and siblings will distract them while you run. Now go. And know that all of us love you dearly." She kissed me on the head, shut and locked the passage and waited by the door. A gun in her hand. I started to crawl away, but ended up waiting to see what happened to my beloved mother.

Two men kicked the door open and aimed their weapons at my mother.

"Where is she Megera Shoma?" One of the voices said. It was hard to see through the floor boards but I could tell that they were vampire hunters.

"Like I'd tell you!" She yelled preparing her gun.

"Please don't make this difficult Miss Shoma." another voice said also preparing his gun.

She was outnumbered. How could she possibly take out two trained vampire hunters!

"Burn in hell!" She fired and hit one of them. But they were just as fast.
They both shot two bullets into her chest.

I held my hands over my mouth. And cried. She fell right on top of the spot where I was. Her blood dripped onto my face. The smell of blood was overwhelming. I took one more glance at my mother's beautiful face then crawled through the passage, leaving behind the men that murdered my precious mother.
