After Kelsey pulled out the dress from the box, Kaien came in and handed her a white mask.

"Are you alright?" He asked.

"Yeah. I'm fine. Just a little paranoid."

"I see. Well, remember to keep an eye out tonight. And please be careful."

"I will."

Kaien left the room.

'I hope Charlotte is prepared. After all, her boyfriends the one who's gonna stab me in the gut.' Kelsey thought.

"Well. Gotta get ready. Don't wanna make Kaname wait." She said aloud.

A few minutes after dressing up and beautifying herself, she was ready for the worst night of her life. She looked outside the window and saw people leaving their dormitories to enter the masquerade. Then she saw him. Kaname was standing against a nearby tree with a beautiful red rose in his hand.

Kaname looked up at Kelsey, which made her face turn a bright pink.

'Well, I may as well enjoy the rest of the night while I can.'

She grabbed the armband, then rushed out of the room. Kelsey soon found herself meeting Kaname halfway. The girls all around shouted and squealed.

"Are you ready?" He asked, ignoring the crowd.

"I am."

He stroked the rose gently into her hair then held out his hand.

'I wonder if Charlotte's okay.'

"Kelsey, it seems as though you have something on your mind." Kaname said.

"Huh? No, I'm fine. Just a little...unprepared I guess."

She sighed as they both walked inside the decorated room, full of cheering fan girls and fan boys.

~scene change~

Charlotte stood inside the boys bathroom, looking into the mirror she saw a face that wasn't her own, it was covered in all types of chemicals. Eyeshadow, lipgloss, blush, mascara. She hated the feeling of having it on her face. She also hated the fact that she was near Kaien's office.

She sighed heavily.

"What're you doing?" Zero came up behind her and threw a towel on her head.

"Ack! Oh...it's just you. Aren't you supposed to be at the dance already?" She said, throwing it back at him.

"Aren't you supposed to be in Kaien's office?"

"Oh forget it. Well, I'm going to go get my dress on, so I'll see you later."

He grabbed her wrist and gripped on to it.

"What're you-!?"

"I don't trust him around you. And don't think he'll spare your life just because he likes you."

"You think I don't know that?"

He looked at Charlotte in astonishment as she left into the hallway.

"Don't think he'll spare your life just because he likes you."

'You don't know how much fear I'm feeling Zero...'

The moon shone rays of light through her window. Her blue dress lit up, as it lay still on her bed.

'Here's to fear.'

The smooth, silky, dress fell down to her feet. While nothing covered her shoulders, the shoes fit like a glove. All that was missing was a mask. The mask laid on top of her black shall that was set on the closest chair.

After grabbing her gun and attaching it to the fabric on her thigh, she was ready to go. So Charlotte left the room, but had, unfortunately, completely forgot about why she was trying to avoid the hallway.

"Oh Charlotte! You didn't come to me for pictures!" Kaien whined.

"Because I wasn't planning on taking any old geezer!"

"My, my, you look so pretty in that dress! I knew you'd like it!"

"I don't like it! It's just for tonight, so don't get your hopes up."

"Well, come on. I've got Yuki, and Zero in my office to take a picture."

"I guess Kelsey got off the hook then." Charlotte mumbled.

The doors opened to reveal Yuki in a beautiful white gown, and Zero in a handsome black tux.

Zero glanced over at Charlotte, his face turning bit red.

"Now everyone smile!"

"Just get it over with."

"Now, now, you have all night. So calm down."

They all gathered in a small group then smiled faintly. Except for Zero.

"Now just Zero and Charlotte."

"Well if that's the last one I'm off." Yuki waved as she walked towards the door.

"Bye, Yuki. And be careful!"

"Back atcha'."

Yuki left the room as Kaien tried to convince Zero to actually smile.

"Come on it's not that difficult." Charlotte pulled his hand around her waist then smiled.

"Perfect! Now hold it..."

With a snap of a button, their photo shoot was done. Zero still wasn't smiling, but they were finished. Charlotte and Zero walked out of the room before Cross could take any more photos.

"You look...handsome." She coughed up.

"Same."

"Same? Is that the best complement you have?"

"Are you asking for one?"

"Yes. Now that you mention it, I haven't gotten a single complement from you."

"Really?"

"Yes, and I'm beginning to think that you can't even say a compliment without an insult first."

"Fine. You look prettier than usual."

"See what did I-," Charlotte's face turned a type of maroon as they walked. "Thanks." She said, hiding her face by looking down.

"Whatever."

They soon reached the entrance, Charlotte saw Ichiru standing outside. A group of girls surrounding him.

Charlotte gripped onto Zero's sleeve before he opened the door.

"Zero...what do I do?"

He could feel her hand shaking from fear.

"Calm down. I'll be observing you two throughout the whole dance." Zero looked down at Charlotte.

"I...I'm trusting you with this, Zero." Charlotte kissed Zero on the cheek then left the building.

Pulling on her mask, she walked over to where Ichiru was, and faintly smiled.

"Excuse me ladies. I must go, but I hope to see you all at the ball." He said, making his way over to Charlotte.

"It seems you became quite popular, Ichiru." Charlotte said.

"It seems so, but I didn't ask them to attend the masquerade with me." Ichiru held out his hand.

Charlotte placed her hand on his, trying to keep her smile. Ichiru took her hand and placed it up to his lips, and gently kissed it. Charlotte looked over at the building and saw Zero glancing out from the window.

"Let's go. I'm anxious to see how they decorated the room." Charlotte said, taking Ichiru's hand.

"As you wish."

The two masked students walked into the masquerade, leaving Zero behind.
