It's been a few weeks since Chakotay kissed me. We've managed to remain professional since then, but I knew there was still something lingering between us. I pushed all these thoughts aside as I finished a report for the Captain. As soon as it was done, I went straight to the bridge. The Captain spotted me and smiled. I walked over, sat in my chair and handed the report to her.

"As promised Captain." I said.

"Thank you Marie."

"Captain, we're being hailed on a subspace frequency." Harry said.

I turned around and looked at him.

"Are there ships in the vicinity?" she asked.

"Negative. Tracking the source. Seems like it's coming from an unmanned buoy, coordinates one four zero mark three one seven." Tom said.

"It looks like a Kazon signal Captain." Harry added.

"Oh dear god." I whispered.

"Take us out of warp. Open a channel." The Captain said.

Seska appeared on the viewscreen. She was holding a newborn baby and she looked extremely frightened.

"Chakotay, they're going to take your son. When Culluh saw the baby. I hear them coming. I don't have much time. When he saw the baby wasn't his. Please Chakotay, help us. Not for me, for your son."

"I told you to stay out of here."

"No, please don't. Don't take him! I beg you. No! Please, no!"

"I'm taking him!"

"No!"

The transmission fizzled out. I looked to Chakotay- he looked shocked, angry and surprised all at the same time. Without warning, he marched into the Captain's ready room. The Captain and I looked at each other, and almost like we had a psychic connection, we stood up and followed him in. He looked at us- his eyes full of anger. I walked over to him and put a hand on his shoulder.

"How are you faring?" I asked.

He shrugged my arm away.

"This is not my responsibility! She has no right to expect me to..." Chakotay shouted.

"She knows you, Chakotay. She knew how you'd react when you saw your son in danger." The Captain firmly said.

He turned round and said "I have a duty to this crew. I can't just leave and go looking for the child."

"And we would never consider letting you go into a Kazon-Nistrim stronghold alone." I added.

"If we do this, we do it together. That's something else Seska would know, too." The Captains said, agreeing with me.

"Do you think it's a trap?" he asked us.

"Do I think Seska is capable of manipulating you and me with this? Oh, yes." The Captain replied.

"On the other hand, it was time for her to deliver, and that baby we saw did look part Cardassian and part human." Chakotay said.

"And knowing Culluh, I'm sure his pride was wounded when he realised the child wasn't his. It makes sense, Chakotay. It might all be true." I said.

"Still, the safest thing would be to ignore this message and resume our course." He stated.

"I'm not going to resume our course just yet. I want you to think about it, Chakotay. This has to be your decision. If you choose to go after him, I know I speak for the entire crew, Starfleet and Maquis alike, when I say we'll stand behind you." The Captain said.
