Martha woke up to the sound of her favorite song, Midnight Memories, playing loud enough to startle her. After turning her alarm off, she checked her phone and got up.

None of the other girls ever got up as early as Martha, but Martha was not "other girls." Other girls did not have nine clubs to run, along with five N.E.W.T. level classes.

Martha's classic look- 50s style winged eyeliner and red lips- was routine and took less than ten minutes to get perfect. Putting on her uniform robes took even less thought. The rest of her time was spent picking out accessories.

She chose her accessories based on what lessons she had that day. Today, she had Alchemy, Potions, and Herbology- all classes demanding her full attention.

Better go on the light side, she thought.

She chose her emerald choker and matching emerald studs. She loved how the emerald jewelry brought out the green in her hazel eyes. She decided to skip jewelry on her hands and wrists because she'd have to take them off for Potions and Herbology anyway.

By the time Martha was ready to go, the sun was starting to peak up over the horizon. No one else would be up for another hour.

Seeing the Slytherin Common Room in the mornings was always one of Martha's favorite sights. She loved the calmness of the air and the morning chill. She walked through the commons to a dark green door guarded by the memorial picture of her father.

"Good morning papa," Martha said cordially, as she did every morning, and went into her office.

You'd never guess Martha's office was connected to the Slytherin Common Room, but Martha loved the soft blue and ivory tones. She told Frost it helped keep her stress levels down.

While she waited for the water in the kettle to boil, she turned her laptop on. Scrolling through her emails while drinking her morning tea was a ritual that made her day start off right every time.

The majority of her emails were school newspaper-related. Most of the writers were either Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff, so she often got emails about new articles late at night.

The subject line "Teacher Romance?" caught her eye immediately. Before even opening it, she knew two things: it was too inappropriate to include in the school newspaper, and Gracie Nowak had written it.

Gracie had a history of writing articles about school gossip, but few of them ever made it into the final draft.

For a little entertainment, Martha decided to read it anyway.

Martha decided to cut it off there and send Gracie an email saying the article was too inappropriate to publish, though it was very interesting

Martha decided to cut it off there and send Gracie an email saying the article was too inappropriate to publish, though it was very interesting. Martha had once caught Cross sneaking out of Frost's office with Frost's trademark plum lipstick on his cheek.
