As hard as it was for Teddy to pull himself out of bed, he did it. He managed to change out of his pajamas and into regular clothes and went to breakfast.
Teddy was too ashamed to sit with the Prefects anymore, so he sat with the other Hufflepuffs instead. He couldn't face them after he'd lost being Head Boy. He was the first person to be demoted back to Prefect in forty years.
His uncle Harry had been kind and sent him letters telling him he was was still proud of Teddy no matter what, but Teddy knew Harry was disappointed in him. It was his first report of violence sent home.
His grandmother, however, wasn't as forgiving. She had sent him a howler Monday morning yelling at him for his behavior towards Nolan, even after he had apologized.
Teddy only left the Hufflepuff Common Room when he had to. The only people he felt comfortable around were his fellow Hufflepuffs, who had an intervention for him the day after the incident with Nolan happened. They told him they were proud of him for standing up for his sister when he thought someone had hurt her, even if it was all for nothing.
They were upset Teddy had lost the Head Boy title-- it was the first time Hufflepuff had a real say in the way the school was run-- but they didn't treat him any differently than before the incident.
The only people outside of Hufflepuff that saw Teddy were Adrian, Maggie, Martha, and Emily. Adrian spent the evenings in the Hufflepuff Common Room to have more time with his boyfriend without making Teddy feel.mlre incomfortable.
"How're you feeling?" Daisy asked Teddy at breakfast.
"The same really," Teddy replied emotionlessly. "I think I might go back to bed after I'm done eating."
Adrian walked in and sat down next to Teddy. "Good morning," Adrian said cheerfully as he hugged Teddy's side.
"Morning," Teddy mumbled.
"How are things?"
"The same."
"I was thinking of going to Hogsmeade today," Adrian said. "Why don't you come with me?"
"I don't know..."
"Getting out of the castle for a while will cheer you up," Adrian said. "I want to take you out for lunch."
"Alright," Teddy replied. "That sounds nice. We can leave after I have my therapy session with Longbottom."
"Text me when you're ready," Adrian said. "And don't rush anything. Stay in there all day if you feel like it. I'll be just as happy if I take you out for dinner instead of lunch."
"Thank you," Teddy replied. "I don't know how long I'll be in there."
"I'm just happy you're getting things out in a healthy environment," Adrian told him. "Take all the time you want. I'm not doing anything else today besides working on that Potions essay."
"Okay," Teddy said. Adrian kissed Teddy's cheek, then started scooping oatmeal into his bowl.
"Wow you two have switched places," Daisy commented. "Usually Adrian is the edgy depressed guy and Teddy is the one that cheers him up."
"What's wrong with me wanting to repay my amazing boyfriend for all the things he's gotten me through?" Adrian asked her. "This is the least I can do for him." Adrian turned to Teddy and added, "I'm definitely doing more for you but I'm waiting for a package to arrive."
Teddy forced a smile, not sure how else to respond. Adrian started rubbing his back soothingly and said, "Don't worry Teddy Bear, you'll feel better soon, and I'm going to be here the whole way."
