Britta hissed as an arrow shot past her head, while Sarah struggled wordlessly against the constraints that she had been put into. The silver-haired girl obviously knew that she had gotten cocky, that she thought she wouldn't have anything to worry about so long as she kept moving, but the current situation was too ridiculous. She clutched onto her stuffed bear and glared at the two men who cornered her.
Green Arrow, a man who protects star city, one of the few completely normal humans in the Justice League and one of the founders if that stupid base in DC was anything to go by. Moving on, he was with his 'sidekick', or glorified assistant, Speedy. Which made no sense, with the Flash and Kid Flash being a thing, but that wasn't the issue to focus on at the moment. What she needed to focus on where the bows expertly trained on her, cocked back and ready.
"There's nowhere to run, " Green Arrow said calmly, "All you need to do is come with us, we aren't gonna hurt you. We just want to talk." The man assured though Speedy seemed disgruntled.
The red-clothed human scoffed, "Yeah, it's not like she can run anyway." He said something else, but Britta wasn't paying too much attention, no. The cogs in her brain were turning, and with a smirk, she opened her mouth.
But before that, one should remark on the turn of events that led our main character into this undesirable situation.
~Star City; 7:30 P.M Three Hours Prior
Britta hummed a tune while eating a large ice cream cone, looking to the sky as she lost herself to thought. There weren't many other people in the park currently, Sarah sat next to her gazing into nothing, a few late joggers, some people walking along after a date, and some cutting through the park to get home after work. Everything was peaceful and quiet, Britta was enjoying yet another day out.
When she moved her neck from its previous position, she cracked it for good measure. It seemed that she remained in the same position for too long, and she resigned that she had enough looking at the sky for a while, turning to her bear instead. With her free hand, she propped the soft toy on her lap, gazing into the gaping abyss that was its empty eye socket. To others, it may seem like she's playing some kind of staring contest.
She certainly wasn't.
Mindlessly she ate her ice cream, all while staring. Before long, a smirk graced her features and she finished her cone. Motioning for Sarah, the two made there way out of the park. Or would have, if a male wearing black and holding a knife hadn't gotten in the way. In English, he ordered the girls to relinquish any items of value if they didn't want a knife to the throat.
To Britta, this meant nothing. Even cutting off her head wouldn't kill her, so she spoke to Sarah calmly. "Is he serious?" She asked rhetorically, "Such a small knife and he expects us to tremble in fear." Britta spoke German this time, knowing that Sarah didn't understand, merely choosing a language of the day.
The man thought this was unnerving, getting the feeling that the two were mocking him, and lunging at them. He hadn't gotten far though, Britta moving in front of Sarah, and delivering a painful punch to his stomach that sent him to the ground. The man through up, clutching his abdomen, and Britta thought she may have used too much force, but it was only a passing thought.
Easily, she kicked him again. Sending the thug into a nearby tree, causing a gasp in agony. Britta smiled, handing off her bear to Sarah, who gently clutched the toy. The woman knew that the small toy meant more to Britta than her own life, so she treated it carefully.
Britta, on the other hand, grabbed the thug by his black hoody and dragged him up to his knees. Her short stature made this hard, as he was only so many inches shorter than her, but that didn't stop her from delivering punches to his person. After so long, she'd forgotten what it was like to exhibit such violence, and was releasing pent up aggression.
That was how Green Arrow and Speedy found them. Britta punching at a near unconscious male, and Sarah standing off to the side holding a teddy bear. Originally the two wanted to talk, as they hadn't seen Britta's face yet, but when they did...
Green Arrow had his bow trained on her remarkably fast, and Speedy followed without question though he seemed confused. Raising a brow, Britta gave a kiss on the cheek to the thug and released him as he faded in and out of consciousness. Wiping away some blood that had splattered on her cheek, the two separate parties eyed each other, before Green Arrow called out several warnings as the two made there ways closer.
The moment he said that the League wanted to speak with her, Britta made a quick decision. Without further ado, Sarah and Britta ran, beginning a game of cat and mouse. They had lost the duo three times but were found again and again, and it seemed that while the two heroes didn't get tired, Sarah and Britta weren't much made for this kind of activity.
Until the two were caught in an alleyway, which brought about the current situation. And Britta's delightful new idea.
~
When Britta had told Sarah to bite off her tongue in English, the two heroes were shocked. But what shocked them more was when the woman actually started to try. "If you don't save her, she's going to bite off her little tongue and attempt suicide." The little girl, a nine-year-old, with silver locks and matching eyes, said these words so easily. "Don't worry though, she'll only be in agony for however long until she dies."
The child giggled at the end of her sentence. Actually giggled, as though she hadn't said something completely heinous. For a moment they wanted to believe she was lying, before jumping into action as the woman began to bleed from her mouth. The two focused on the woman and didn't notice when little Britta disappeared into the shadows, as though she hadn't existed in the first place.
When Green Arrow had finally gotten Sarah to cease her attempts at suicide, she passed out, and he called the league while telling Speedy to make his way back home. The young man obliged, but not after grumbling about it. When Green Arrow had told them all that he encountered the mystery child that Batman had been tracking for nearly two years, they were shocked when he confirmed that she looked the same as she had from surveillance they gathered from the last fifteen years.
They presented more shock when he told them of exactly how he and Roy encountered the girl, beating up a man in a park for unknown reasons. Honestly, he was shocked and horrified when he came across them on patrol, a young woman simply standing by as she gazed into the distance while the child continually punched at a grown man. But the shock grew tenfold when she turned around and showed her bloody face that seemed too familiar to the blurry pictures of a child that had been involved with people disappearing for so long.
The strange thing was, that they usually reappeared in a hospital, with low iron, scars that looked like punctures, and no memory of what happened. J'onn had said that someone placed a condensed fog over there minds, one that he couldn't break without hurting those involved and that it had to have been a skilled person.
The only lead they had was the mysterious little girl that was spotted with each of the victims. They thought that she may have been another sort of victim, but now...
"Are you sure she ordered that woman to do that?" Black Canary asked, clearly skeptical and saddened that a child would be capable of doing something so horrid. And despite Green Arrow witnessing it firsthand, it was hard to swallow. But he did confirm that the child had done it, and Batman had been quick to give out an order as well.
"Since the kid has proven hostile, I want everyone in the League to be looking for this kid. It seems like she'll have the answers to the questions that all the victims have. Until she's found, we should be on alert." He ordered, eyes behind the mask narrowed and Green Arrow resisted a shiver. He was really too serious, but Green Arrow could understand. An unknown child, hostile, who was obviously skilled in some way and contributed to the disappearance and reappearance of many people was cause for concern.
He could only agree to the terms and help in the search for her at this point. But he had a strange feeling that this was all going to be a bit too much for them.
Two months later he was proven right.
