Chapter 2: Leaving to Get Thanos

Steve had just finished shaving his beard and looked at himself with a sigh. Then the mirror started shaking. That was his cue to get the others to check it out.

Steve, Natasha, Bruce, and Rhodey came out of the compound to see Carol bring the spacecraft down. Once done, Nebula came out while Jamie and Y/N supported Tony as they came out.

"Oh my god," Steve whispered.

He ran to them and helped Tony stand up.

"I couldn't stop him," Tony told him.

"Neither could I," Steve replied.

"I lost the kid," Tony said.

"Tony, we lost," Steve responded.

"Is ummm..." Tony tried to ask about Pepper.

But his question was answered when she came out running to him.

"Oh my god!" Pepper exclaimed.

She hugged Tony, which he eagerly returned.

"It's okay," he whispered.

Meanwhile, Steve turned to Y/N and immediately hugged her.

"What were you thinking going off like that?" he asked, his voice a little shaky.

"I'm sorry. I just miss Bucky," she told him.

"I do too, but don't do that again," Steve said once he parted from the hug.

"Okay. I won't," Y/N promised.

They all went inside and had Tony sit down so they could give him blood.

"It's been 23 days since Thanos came to Earth," Rhodey said.

"World governments are in pieces. The parts that are still working are trying to take a census. And it looks like he did...he did exactly what he said he was gonna do. Thanos wiped out fifty percent, of all living creatures," Natasha explained.

"Where is he now? Where?" Tony asked.

Y/N was about to answer when Steve answered the question.

"We don't know. He just opened a portal and walked through," Steve answered.

Tony saw Thor sitting in another room, deep in thought. When Jamie looked at him, she had the same look on her face.

"What's wrong with him?" Tony wondered.

"Yeah, he's pissed. He thinks he failed. Which of course he did, but there's a lot of that's goin' around, ain't there?" Rocket said.

"We got that, Rocket. I'm in the same boat," Jamie told him.

"How?" Natasha asked.

"Because I was there with Thor. All I wanted was for him to bring Loki back, but I wasn't thinking about taking him out. I should've helped Thor end Thanos and brought Loki back myself," Jamie explained.

"Don't do that, J. You want your boyfriend back like Cap's sis wants her husband back," Rocket said.

"Honestly, until this exact second, I thought you were a Build-A-Bear," Tony admitted.

"Maybe I am," Rocket responded.

"We've been hunting Thanos for three weeks now. Deep Space scans, satellites, and we got nothing. Tony, you fought him," Steve explained.

"Who told you that?" Tony asked, surprised, then continued, "I didn't fight him. No, he wiped my face with a planet while the Bleecker Street Magician gave away the store. That's what happened. There was no fight."
