Kai’s Point Of View

I hated using compulsion on people but I had to. I didn’t want to see Emily get hurt nor find out about vampires.

As I watched her turn the corner I was sure she wouldn’t see Colton. I went searching for him until I found him near a swing set.

He was crouched talking to himself.

“Hey.” I went up to him.

“Kai. Oh my god. What just happened?” He asked worried.

I took hold of his wrist only to notice fang marks.

There’s another vampire in this town and this vampire clearly used compulsion to make Colton forget.

You see, compulsion is a wonderful thing sometimes. Other times it’s just plain rude. In order for it to work, the victim must not have any Anemone in their system. Anemone is a flower that disables compulsion. If the person has Anemone they will not be compelled. Meanwhile, if they don’t, they will do whatever a vampire tells them.

I stared at Colton in disbelief. I came to a new town to start over, yet here I am, with another vampire.

But who?

“Missed me?” A mysterious voice said.

I quickly got up but stayed near Colton.

“Over here.” The voice mocked.

I turned around as quickly as possible and there he was.

His tall figure casted a shadow against the tarmac. He has his fists clenched, a smirk on his face, and his golden hair brushed up unlike usual. He was wearing a white t-shirt with a black leather jacket. His jeans were evidentially ripped, their black fabric torn at the knees. Lastly, he has black boots lazily laced.

“Chase.” I said through gritted teeth.

“Hello to you too, Kai.” Chase responded.

What the hell is he doing here? We were buddies back in the 1980’s until he decided to turn my sister.

I was already turned from 1975 when I met Chase. We were both turned at the age of 18. Through years of friendship he got to know my family, my sister Clara being one of his best friends as well.

The 2 years of 1979 and 1980 I left our town in search for a new life, no need to explain why at the moment. Chase remained taking care of my family. When I returned in 1981 I found my sister welcoming me back, but instead she was different. She became a vampire thanks to Chase. Although, she seemed to enjoy it, at least for 7 years after she was turned. In 1988 she completely disappeared only leaving a note that said: “I want a restart. I hate who I have become.” Ever since then I’ve been searching for her. Here I am another town, searching, trying to restart, yet Chase is here.

“Are you just going to stand there? No best friend handshake? Don’t you remember?” Chase mocked while his fangs flashed in the light.

Don’t let him get to you Kai. I told myself repeatedly.

I bent down reaching for Colton and picked him up gently.

“I am going to take you home and you’re going to tell Emily that we stopped by the grocery store in search for a snack, but there weren’t any good ones.” I told Colton.

It took him a moment to process the compulsion then he repeated: “We stopped by the grocery store in search for a snack but we couldn’t find any good ones.”

I began to walk back in the direction we had came from completely ignoring Chase.

“Really Kai? Your best friend comes back to greet you and you ignore him?” Chase said as he moved like a blur to block my path.

I simply stepped around him guiding Colton in the direction of his house.

“Come on Kai. I know we had our differences but I’m here to fix it.” Chase said in an innocent voice.

That’s it I thought. He wants a fresh start? Has he not forgotten?

“Really Chase?” I stared at him in disbelief. “Because of you I lost my sister, because you decided to introduce her to the ‘better world’, at least what you thought was the better world.” My voice rose.

“All you care about is you, as long as you’re having fun, it’s fine. You know what? It’s not. I suggest you get out of here before I actually lose my temper.” I said as calmly as possible.

“Still same old Kai. Trying to be as human as possible. But, just saying I do care. Why else would I be in this town?” Chase questioned.

“I don’t care, just get the hell out of here.” I stated flatly continuing my path.

“Alright, well I tried. I promise you I will be back, just got to do something in my old town first. Enjoy the next few days, they will be the most peaceful you’ll ever have, and the last you’ll ever have.” Chase faked a smile…..

…….and with that he disappeared.
