I changed into a fresh sweater and sweatpants and flopped onto my bed. Of course, I then began to check my texts. I remembered the texts I had earlier received from Emily and Peter, yet they did not tell me anything today. I dismissed the thought and went on my social media.

10 minutes later my moms voice was audible even through my headphones. What did she want?

I removed them and called back: “Yeah?”

“Come have cupcakes honey!” She responded.

Ugh. Really? She wants me to go have cupcakes with Colton and Kai?

As much as I did not want to, my stomach begged me to.

I slowly walked down the stairs and once I reached the bottom I peaked into the living room, no one was there. Colton and Kai must be in the kitchen.

I gracefully walked into the living room and over to the kitchen.

I was greeted by mom who was still in her formal outfit with her brunette hair drawn up into a bun. Colton was wearing a regular tee with shorts. Kai on the other hand was wearing a sweatshirt with jeans. Quite classy I must admit.

“Here you are. Vanilla with chocolate icing and only blue sprinkles.” My mom smiled handing me a plate of 3 cupcakes.

Ever since I was 10 I only ate vanilla cupcakes with chocolate icing and blue sprinkles, it tastes amazing!

As I begin to turn around and head back up to my room my mother says something;

“I heard Kai is in your geography and history class.”

“Yeah, sadly.” I mumble.

“What was that?” My mother asks.

“She said yeah, sadly.” Kai answers before I could.

How did he hear me? I could barely hear my self. Does he have super running and hearing powers?

“Now now Emily, be nice.” My mother says with a frown.

“Sorry.” I fake an apology and smile in Kai’s direction.

“Awkward.” Colton whispers loudly.

I roll my eyes and try a second attempt at going up to my room, yet again my mom begins to talk to me.

“Emily, Colton and Kai are going to play some basketball. How about you go join them?” My mom asks.

“What.” I state rather than question.

“No more phone.” My mother says as she takes away my phone.

“Mom!” I squeal.

“You guys wouldn't mind if Emily joined you, now would you boys?” My mom asks Colton and Kai sweetly.

“It’s fine.” They both reply in sync.

“Have fun!” My mom says and turns away to go back to baking.

“No, mom!” I try again.

“More complaining, means more time away from your phone.” She says.

“But, but, ugh.” I sigh.

I turn and head to the door. I messily lace my shoes on and leave the house with a slight slam of the door.

Kai and Colton were already about 10 steps ahead so I took my time catching up. The distance remained 10 steps until we reached the community’s basketball court.

I sat down on a nearby bench as Colton and Kai played a few rounds of basketball.

I watched as Kai won each round. Whenever the ball would bounce out of Colton’s hands Kai would run after it, like a blur. He was so fast it was almost unreal.

As the sun began to set Colton and Kai took a break as Colton went in search of a water fountain.

Kai began to walk towards me. I rolled my eyes and looked away.

“Do you hate me or something?” He questioned when he was about 3 metres away.

“No, you’re just annoying.” I whispered to myself as quietly as possible.

“Really? No one has ever called me annoying.” He said with a smile.

Why was he smiling? How did he hear me?

“Wait, how did you hear that?” I asked.

He froze.

“Uh.” He began. “It wasn’t very quiet.”

“Do you have super hearing?” I half joked half asked.

“Um.” He said with a shrug.

I looked at him puzzled but left the topic as soon as I heard Colton scream.

“Colton!” I shouted quickly getting up from my lazy sitting position on the bench.

My legs ached from sitting for an hour but my heart was racing. I began to frantically search the park with very little light to guide me.

“Colton! Where are you?” I screamed.

“Calm down.” I heard Kai say as he rested his hands on my shoulders.

I tried to push him away but he was too strong.

“Calm down? Are you crazy?” I screamed again.

He then looked me directly in the eye and told me to forget what had just happened and to go home and tell my mom that Colton and him made a stop by the grocery store.

I began to walk home questioning myself about what had just happened.
