There were different dormitories depending on what type of familiar you summoned. Since familiars were summoned through magic, it was the best way to consider the power level of the mage. That is to say, if the mage is being truthful about the intensity of their power. Although, who would ever "fake" their magic for a low ranking familiar that was to be with them for life? Some do, and with (y/n), that's exactly what he did.

F rank familiars meant the (y/n) had the worst "room" out of the entire school. It was in a dark, musty cave where the school's extra mana crystals grow. Teachers would visit this cave rarely, typically to harvest what was left in the cave. Since an established F rank dormitory was never created, (y/n)'s residence was now in the cave.

Damon stubbornly fought with (y/n), he expressed to the headmaster that (y/n)'s magic was B or even A rank. But because (y/n) summoned an F rank, willingly, the headmaster said that (y/n) knew what he was getting himself into. So the situation with (y/n)'s classes and housing was already decided. Given a teacher that never showed up, (y/n) was pretty much forgotten about the school. In the meantime, Damon and his Silver viper became widely famous, yet despite everything, Damon still fought for (y/n)'s rank to be switched.

He knew that (y/n) was putting up a facade, he's known him for years, and in that time, he knows what (y/n) is capable of. But the school didn't do anything, the only way to change a student's rank. Is if their familiar evolved, which an F rank can't accomplish. So Damon eventually gave up, he and (y/n) separated their ways, and though the two were still on good terms. Damon was still annoyed with (y/n)'s stubbornness. (y/n) was the only person he couldn't sway, it irritated Damon, because he wanted (y/n) to be swayed.

But regardless, this story isn't about Damon's sexual frustrations with his crush. When (y/n) scoped out of his new room, he decided to fix it up a bit. He had no classes that day, and it seemed like his teacher was never going to show up. If his suppose teacher was even real to begin with. The school had completely forgotten about him, secluded from the rest of the students, (y/n) pretty much had all the time in the world. After using several spells, he smoothed out the cave interior, to an extent. Next to an opening in the wall, that opened to the outdoors. (y/n) had smoothed out a stone platform, where his "bed" was suppose to be. He didn't have much money to go off of, so he had to take up a few quests to make money. After a few days of doing mindless work consisting of harvesting herbs or killing monsters. He collected enough money to furnish his new room.

By this time, the barren tree that grew next to his cave, started to bloom sakura flowers. It reminded him of his familiars, who had been so much help and comfort to him for the past few days. Giving each a different name, the blobs seemed to feel happy that they were named.

The pink one was named, Ichigo, which literally meant Strawberry.

The white one was named, Yuki, which mean snow.

The green one was named, Matcha, simply because it smelled like matcha.

However, when stacked onto each other, they were considered as "one" familiar. So their summoning name was "Hanami", for flower viewing, as they were made from an hanamidango. In any case, the four of them grew closer with each other, even though they couldn't help with magical tasks. They would give (y/n) warmth, while he tried fixing his room. A few days later his work paid off.

(Below the pictures are drawn by me, they took me a good 3-4 hours to draw.)

When the room was complete, Hanami, aka, Ichigo, Yuki, and Matcha were ecstatic about how pretty the room was. Although the cave was already lit from the sunlight and mana crystals, (y/n), with the help of Matcha, hanged up a few lanterns to give the space a warmer feel. The cave was still barren, but with the addition of a few touches-ups. It made it feel livable and comfy.

From being praised to receiving genuine affection from their master, Hanami, an F rank did the unexpected and evolved. Instead of evolving to an E or D rank, they jumped to a B rank familiar. One would assume that the three blobs would've merged and become one familiar, but they didn't. Growing in size, each grew animal-like features. Ichigo became more cat-like, Yuki more dog-like, and matcha was a blob bird. (A/n: Matcha is my favorite, for later reasons)

(I too drew this picture below, as it's the cover picture and the inspiration of this story. :3 It's also featured in my art book.)

Not only did their transformations alter their look a bit, three gem-like stones appeared on each of their foreheads. With their change in rank, also came with a change in power. Each one now could assist (y/n) with magical tasks, from enhancing his magic to just helping him with minor tasks. This jump from F to B rank was notified to the school, yet the school year had only begun and (y/n) grew comfortable inside the cave. But yet, people were shocked that he had ranked up his F familiars to B, in under a few days!

A feat once thought impossible, or could never happen, did happen. Hanami was physical proof that perhaps F ranks were actually a lot stronger than what was once believed. But it wasn't due to power that made Hanami evolve. It was just the memories with (y/n) that made his familiars feel like they had to evolve, so they could be of more use to (y/n). So they did, and now they were completely inseparable from him. To the point where the three fought with each other, for head pats.

Since Matcha had bird-like tendencies, he needed more attention or stuff to do than the others. But that doesn't mean that the other two didn't grow jealous when Matcha received more head pats. When (y/n) had to leave his room to attend "class", he was found with Ichigo on his head, Matcha sitting on his shoulder, and Yuki in his arms. It was too cute to ignore, and while (y/n) wasn't taught anything by a physical teacher. He self taught himself through the books in the library. His familiars helping him move books around and such. The librarian appreciated (y/n)'s visits, it was clear he was powerful, yet (y/n) didn't hold a prideful aura that scared away weaker students. In fact, his class time was turned into tutoring sessions, where he would help anyone with their work. Because his teacher never showed up, he became a "teacher" of his own "class".

It didn't matter if the person was an A or E rank; he treated them equally, yet was a lot harsher to those higher up the ranks. The headmaster who heard rumors of (y/n) tutoring other students came to the library to overlook his activities. Sure enough, Damon was telling the truth, (y/n) had magic that could even be labeled as S rank, yet he was fine being labeled as an F rank. For he really did love Hanami with all his heart, his familiars feeling the same way.

(If the names are confusing, sorry. Hanami is the name of your dango familiars as a group, but alone, they're each called by different names. Pink=Ichigo, white=Yuki, and green=Matcha.)
