Fenna

Butterflies fill my stomach through out the journey to my house. Nolan hasn't been helpful either. He seems tense as well.

I'm not tense because I'm scared of  my parents..hell no! It's the machine I'm driving in. I just feel like I'm in my own world.

“Honey..”
I call Nolan as I lean on his chest.

“Yes babe...”

“I love this car...”

He let's out a hearty laughter and lifts up my head from his chest. He cups my face into his hands and gives me a breathtaking kiss.

“Stop it dear, Ralph is here!”
I say as I gasp for breathe.

“He will learn to mind his own business!”

He replies in my ears.

“And about this car here, I'll gift you one soon.”

“Really?”

I'm already excited.

“I'm serious baby...”

*******
The door to the house is wide open.

I let myself in then Nolan follows suit.

Dad is sprawled on the couch, reading a magazine while mum is in the kitchen, preparing something. I wonder why they're so relaxed if Vadim is that sick!

“Good evening dad!”

I greet him.

He sits up and places the magazine on the table, adjusting his reading glasses.
“Good evening angel...”

He notices Nolan behind me and removes the glasses completely.

“Welcome my son. Sit down..”
He signals, tapping the couch beside him.

Nolan gladly sits next to dad as I run to Vadim's room.

His room is unlocked so I let myself in. The lights are still on and the sight in front of me takes me aback.

A few bottles of whiskey are scattered all over the room and it stinks of booze and cigarettes combined.
He's already asleep, a duvet pulled over his head, facing the wall.

I gather enough courage and pull the duvet off him.
He's sound asleep and his right hand is already bandaged.

“Vadim...Broo...”

I call him but he doesn't respond. He's snoring loudly.

If this is the kind of sickness my parents were calling me for, then he can as well continue being sick.

I collect the bottles and gather them at a corner.

It's not the first time that vadim drowns his frustrations in alcohol.
I remember that time he lost a great contract, he drunk till he was hospitalised. I hope this one doesn't lead to his hospitalization!

I walk back to the sitting room as I lock the door carefully behind me to avoid waking him up.

Dad and Nolan are busy  chatting like old friends. I decide to let them be and head to the kitchen to meet mum.

“Good evening mummy dearest!”
I always sweet talk her whenever I don't want her trouble. She can be a handful, you know!

“Good evening Fenna. You went missing the whole day!”

“Sorry mummy, I had some errands to run...”

She leans on the kitchen counter and faces me, smirking.
