Melrose’s P.O.V
I smiled as Cynthia mimicked her mom. “Your so mean to your mom you know.” I said, chuckling.
"It's mum not mom.” She retorted.
I rolled my eyes “In my eyes, it’s still mom. I’ve only been here three months.”
After Beau’s funeral, mom had insisted that we move to have a fresh start. She didn’t want to move just to another state. No, she wanted to move to an entirely different country.
We ended up in Britain. Hampshire to be more specific. I had to yet again move away from my friends. However, this is time I had grown more very close to this group of friends. I had been there for almost a year and half.
Juno hadn’t said much but I could tell that he wasn’t greatly happy. Even with the rough start to our friendship, we had gotten very close and had a good friendship.
It was very hard to say goodbye to everyone. Even Brianna had come back to Colorado, to say goodbye. We had shed many tears and made many promises for future life.
“Anyway, how’s that boy you like in America?” Cynthia asked, as she turned the corner abruptly, snapping me out of my reverie.
I blushed, turning to look out the window. “Noel,” I murmured. From the corner of my eye, I could see Cynthia nodding frantically, her black hair covering her eyes. “He’s good. He’s planning on visiting soon.”
“Awh,”
I kept looking out the window as memories flooded my mind.
“Next please.”
I stepped forward to the counter and handed my passport over. I was not looking forward to this flight. Ten hours with my parents. By myself. No Beau to keep me company.
“Where’s your passport?” The woman behind the counter asked. Noel shook his head at her.
“He’s not boarding the plane. Just waiting with me until I do,” I explained. The woman looked sceptical but made no further qualms.
I grabbed my passport, and made my way to the nearest café and sat down. Noel sat cosily beside me. “I’ve haven’t got long until boarding.” I said to Noel, feeling queasy.
I didn’t think I could leave everyone. They had come to see me off but decided to stay outside the airport. Noel didn’t even need convincing to come in, he insisted.
It had only been a month since we started going out and I already had to leave. I sighed, staring at the floor.
“I’m going to miss you Rose.” Noel spoke up, placing his arms over my shoulders. I leant into Noel. I could feel his heartbeat against my ear.
“I’ll miss you too.”
“Can the flight HG02 4996 board.” The tannoy spoke, crackling as it did so.
“Rose come on!” Mom shouted too me.
I stood up, pulling Noel with me. I stood on my tiptoes and placed a kiss on his cheek. Noel obviously didn’t think that was adequate. He leant down, capturing my lips with his own. It was a loving kiss, not passionate or heated in anyway. We just were sharing one last kiss.
When he pulled back he got down onto one knee, and I froze. Surely, he wouldn’t be proposing to me. One we had only been going out a short amount of time and two we were both eighteen.
“Noel you’re causing a scene.” I hissed, looking at the crowd staring at us.
“I don’t care.” Noel said, brushing it off. He pulled a small black box from his pocket. “Before you ask, I’m not proposing.”
“Hurtful.”
“I know we’ve only been going out a short amount of time; but I have loved you for a long time. It only feels right that you wear this ring. I want you to wear this ring, to promise to me that you will return to me eventually.” He asked, opening the box.
I gasped at the ring. It had the words ‘Today, tomorrow and always. Melrose and Nolan’ engraved into the ring.
“Yes of course I will wear it.” I exclaimed, jumping forward toward him.
Noel opened his arms and we stood- well Noel kneeled- hugging. It was like he we were hidden in our own bubble.
“Melrose Distell. Plane. Now!” My mom ordered. “Wait… are getting you married?”
I shook my head viciously “Promise ring.”
Butterflies entered my stomach as I thought of that moment. I hated having to leave Noel after that. He hadn’t minded but I missed him like crazy.
He had been over once since I had moved but he couldn’t stay any longer than that. He was starting college.
With moving to Britain, I had missed college here (because I am eighteen). Therefore, I went straight into university, where I had met Cynthia and Kier.
I wasn’t sure if I preferred that but, actually I liked it. Otherwise, I would have had to go to college with a bunch of sixteen year olds. Then I really would have felt out of place.
Cynthia and Kier had quickly become my two friends. There was definitely a bitter and sweet side to moving. It meant leaving Beau’s body in America but we managed to gain a fresh start. Which to be honest, I was grateful for.
It had been hard to begin with. Without Beau, I had been a lot more nervous to start somewhere new. My confidence had definitely been knocked a great deal.
However, I had managed to get good friends and a great Uni. My dad was taking therapy for his speaking, to improve it further. It was going really well. He hardly stuttered at all now. My mom was still working, constantly, but she made a bigger effort to see me nowadays.
Overall, I feel moving to Britain, was a positive experience. For me and my parents.
Cynthia’s car halted and she turned to face me. “Stop blanking out! I’ve been trying to speak to you for ages.” She said.
“Sorry. I was reflecting.” I defended.
“Anyway, how do you feel about living here then?” She accentuated her British accent as she spoke.
“Yes, I’ve got you and Kier and a new place to discover I can’t wait.” I replied. With that, we got out her car. I looked up to the sky and smiled.
Beau wherever you are, I love you
