Summer break was over. My sister and I were going to school together. She was in 6th grade now, and I was in 7th. No one knew about the Light, except me. I had kept it a secret, even though there had been times when I had wanted to suprise the people that thought that they were so much better than everyone else. Like, "Hey kid. Gimme your lunch money." Boom! Off with their head.
The morning bell jarred my thoughts. I pulled my bag onto my shoulder and walked to my first class. The halls were crowded with new kids trying to find their classes and lockers. A girl Skylar's age stopped me to ask for directions.
" Hello," she said," Do you know where room E202 is?"
"Yes, it's upstairs, last door on the right," I answered.
Okay, thanks!" The girl skipped off.
That day at lunch, Sky and the girl from that morning sat down next to me and my friends. The girl had short light blonde hair, blue eyes, and braces. She was tall for a 6th grader. "Hey, I'm Clare," she said.
"I'm Grace," I replied. "Nice to meet you."
We all talked and ate together until the bell rang. After making arrangements to meet at the same place tomorrow, we all scattered and went to our next classes.
When we got home, my mom asked us how our day had been and let us have some homemade cookies. They were warm and moist, and melted in my mouth. Pure bliss. I thanked my mom for the cookies and ran upstairs to my bedroom.
I thought about my gym teacher. After class she had pulled me aside and looked at me, saying, "You are very gifted. Use what you have in a good way." She had handed me a slip of paper titled "Gym class tutorials." I didn't know how you could study for gym class, but the slip said that I would be excused from gym tomorrow and go to her classroom.
I thought back to what she had said about me being gifted. I had always been good at athletics. But maybe she meant something else.
