The school was empty. I stood on the second floor, gripping the blue-painted railing. I nearly jumped over the side when I heard a voice.
"Follow me."

I slowly turned around. A girl was right behind me, speaking in my ear. I could feel fear creeping up my neck. It was like frosty the snowman had showed up early this year and run his fingers down my throat. The girl looked slightly older than me, though I was a bit taller. She had long, coarse brown hair and tan skin.

"I don't have much time," she warned.

My eyes narrowed.
"Who are you?"

"That doesn't matter right now," she answered. "But you have to come with me."

I rolled my eyes. "Oh, sure. 'Cause I like to trust every random teenager that says to follow them. 'Stranger danger' just goes out the window."

She sighed, then opened her hands. The Light swirled above her palms. My face must have mirrored the shock I felt, because she laughed.

"Are you suprised to find that you are not the only one that is Entranced?" she asked. My head spun.

Words, pictures, and thoughts echoed through my mind. Entranced. The Light. The feeling of being paralized. The feeling of falling down, down into darkness. The feeling of being an outsider, even before I was Entranced. That one caught me off guard. It felt as if I had been slapped: my chest was heavy with grief and my eyes stung. My vision was blurred from tears. I wiped my eyes quickly, but when I turned back around the girl was fading.

"I need to go," she said. Then her form turned to vapor and she was gone. My surroundings became unfocused, shuddering like the image in a digital camera. When my vision sharpened I was in a different place. It looked... well, I didn't really know how it looked. The entire place was dark.

Then a voice spoke. It was deep, dark and cruel. By the first sound, I knew that the speaker wanted nothing more than to kill me.
