Chapter 5:The Sorting Hat

We boarded the boats,the sound of creaking and splashing water echoed loudly as if the entire lake was as quiet as the night around us. We began to sail, curiously I peeked over the side the colours and quick movements of the waters beneath us did not escape my eyes as I traced the movement's to the mermaids of the lake. Fantastic! Their simply beautiful!

Though I doubt the others could see them,I found them rather captivating.
'Careful,maybe you're falling for their spells.'Blue warned lazily.
"Whatever ." I muttered softly.
"Wha' was tha',Dawn?" Hagrid asked. Oh butter fingers, giants have great hearing,how could I forget? I straightened up and smiled brightly at Hagrid.
"I say don't you think the water is rather captivating,Hagrid?" I ask.
"Ny. I think the water is aching for drownin'." Hagrid says paling visibly.
"Oh,my. Sorry,I did not think anyone would be afraid of water. Well I won't look at it again, than." I say. Well unless I want to take a dive that is. Hagrid relaxed slightly but still looked rather pale.
"Oi!Halfblooded giant! Why haven't you tipped the bait over yet?!" A voice asked from up front,hey isn't that,Draco? Maybe is should -
"Now Molfoy!If you say that again I will tip your boat over!" Called the teacher making all the others brake out in laughter. Huh, I guess that'll work too.
"Yes,Professor!" Called Draco. I grinned from ear to ear.
"Hagrid,if anybody picks on ya, please don't hesitate to tell me, I'll pummel them for you." I say smiling. Hagrid smiled and nodded back at me relaxing ever so slightly. The boats docked and we clambered off and headed to the castle off in the distance.
We stopped in front of the great hall just as the Professor was about to explain the ghost appeared making everybody scream. Sir. Nicholas laughed and glided close to me and Hagrid. Hagrid staggered back muttering something about sins and the works.
"Hello there."I say smiling. Sir.Nicholas grinned.
"Hello there,young miss,may I know your name?" He asks.
"It's rude to ask someone their name without giving your own first,don't you think,sir?" By now everyone of the kids Wed staring at me like I was crazy.
"Oh dear, why your right. I'm Sir. Nicholas. Your turn now." Sir.Nicholas says as he gave a bow which looked kind of difficult.
"It's Asher,Sir.Nicholas,and it is very nice to be of acquaintance." I say giving my own bow.
"May I please have their attention back,Sir.Nicholas. Miss Dawn?" The Professor asks.
"Ah,sorry,Professor!" Sir. Nicholas grinned at me and vanished along with the other ghosts.
"Well than. Once we enter I will call your names and you will take the hat sitting on the chair,you will than proceed to be sorted into a house. This house will be your second home while you are here at Hogwards. And please remain quiet." She said and opened the big double doors. Loud cheering sounded from all around us making Blue vibrate faintly with excitement. The Professor lead the way to a chair where the sorting hat sat comfortably. Wee came to a stop as the Professor stood next to the hat.
" Welcome first years to Hogwards school of Witchcraft and Wizardry.I am Headmaster Armando Dippet and it is nice to see so many new faces..." My mind wandered as the headmaster began to give quite the long winded speech. My eyes scanned the teachers table andd found Professor Slughorn and Professor Dumbeldoor. Dumbeldoor smiled at me and gave me a wink. I smiled brightly back at him grinning. Maybe I smile way to much,but I'm happy to have a second chance to be here and to experience magic with my very own eyes. Slowly the Professor called out names and a few turns later it was finally my turn.
"Dawn Asher!" Professor McGonagall called. I pushed passed the others apologising a lot more than usual. I picked the hat up gently and sat down placing it above my head.
"Oh,my!!" The hat nearly shouted my head out. I lifted my hands and covered my ears sing he had shouted it out loud. Heck everyone else did the same cause the hat sure as hell has a very very loud voice.
"What great attributes!"It shouted out loud again.
'Gah! Stop shouting would yah!' My face was scrunched up in pain I lifted the hat slightly and placed it back in place as if to give it a shake. This dang hat.
"Fine,fine." It muttered out loud and sank into deep concentration. By now everyone was looking at me. I relaxed when I felt its train of thought shift.
'Mhmm,it seems each house would fit you well,so I'll ask you which one do you want to enter?' The hat asked inside of my head.
'Slytheren. If I may?'I ask unsure.
"Slytheren it is!" The hat yelled, Slyhteren cheered throwing their hats into the air. I stood up and removed the hat placing it gently on the chair.
"Thanks." I whispered and walked towards Slyhteren as my attire turned a dark green and black. 'Nice.' I thought to myself. Though I do prefer blue. A girl made space beside her and I plopped down smiling happily at her.
"Hello,and thank you." I greeted. She grinned clearly happy.
"I'm Mai,a first year like you." She says holding out her hand. I took it and shook it.
"Riddle Tom!" Professor McGonagall called. My head swivled around as I watched as Tom sat with the hat on top of his head. And I can hear a few girls swooning over him from all the way over here. I shook my head frowning. The hat visibly shuddered or rather it was visible to me.
"Slyhteren it is!" The hat called as Slyhteren cheered once more. Tom sat a few seats away from me clearly not wanting to be near me,well that's fine by me. As the first years were sorted our food appeared in front of us and we ate. I talked to Mai while the others talked amongst themselves. As the feast stopped Professor Slughorn introduced himself as head of house and began to escort us down to the dungeons,I shivered as we came down into the cold hallways. Oh, I seriously won't get used to this. Mai shivered as well and looked around as if to scan for intruders or creepers.
"Relax. It's not like something will jump at you if you turn away from it." I say,tucking her sleeves. She nodded but walked closer to me. When we reached the Slyteren portrait the prefect turned to us and called out.
"The password is needed to enter all houses so pay attention to the notice board as you leave in the morning's for the new password.  For today the password is Lyrican!" He called and the door slithered away. Yeah,I'm not getting used to this. We entered and the prefect explained the rules. Boys to the right and girls to the left,there's a spell that will go off and tell the prefects if you go to the opposite side. We're supposed to be up and at the Great Hall at 8 in the morning the next day. We walked up to oh respective rooms and I found that my case was already here since we had to leave it out side of the Great Hall. Mai apparently is sharing the room with me along with four others,cool.
I plopped down on the bed in the corner feelling rather happy with my decision.
"Hey,I'm Olivia Wane,it's nice to meet everyone." A girl with soft red hair says while she figgited with her hands. I sat up smiling brightly at her.
"Asher Dawn,it's nice to meet everybody too." I grinned.
"Mai Evens."Mai stuttered.
"Hanna Lovegood."A girl with blonde hair and blue eyes says.
"Emelia Caser." A girl with chocolate brown hair says.
" Meleny Nicholas." A girl with blonde hair and hazel eyes says.I stood up and took my case off of the bed,placing it on top of the trunk in front of my bed. Opening I rummaged through it for my night gown.
"Ah,here it is." I hummed happy. Taking out a whitish blue dress that was neatly folded and walked passed the beds and towards the bathroom that was connected to our room. I took a very long shower and strode out of the bathroom seeing as tithe others were chatting away I grinned. I sat down pushing my hair away from my bumb since it's so long. And its still white and blue! At least no one has noticed yet. I took out my comb and brushed through my hair than began to braid it.
"Hey Asher,why did the hat scream like that?" Olivia asks. I looked up and into her eyes.
"Apparently because I have amazing characteristics." I say and tied my hair up.
"Than why did it send you to Slyhteren?" Emelia asks.
"Because I asked it to,well it did give me a choice after all. I'm intrigued by the house of Slyhteren so of course I'd choose  it" I say. I folded my robes and uniform nearly before placing it in my case.
" It gave you a choice?!" Everyone yelled shell shocked. I looked up narrowing my eyes.
" It couldn't choose. So it asked me to. It's not that difficult to understand." I say. I stood up and placed my comb on the bedside table.
"Night everyone." I say as I removed the covers and crawled in.
"Night." Everyone said reluctantly and began to prepare for bed. I rubbed my pendant and Blue appeared he snuggled closer to me and fell asleep, I placed my hand on his body and closed my eyes. Humming a soft melody that echoed softly through the room.
