The party-goers seemed to have multiplied since Dylan and Emily went down to the beach. The pool area and decks were packed as the party raged on at full volume and high spirits. Despite his size, Dylan easily made his way through the labyrinth of teenagers with Emily sitting on his shoulders. Emily didn't object to the notion as before, thankful that she didn't have to plow through all the bodies of supernatural and mystical creatures.
"Hey, Dylan!" Both Dylan and Emily followed the voice to see a beautiful mermaid lazing by the poolside. Her silver tail laid half in water and her scales reflected the blue colour, creating an almost camouflage effect. Her skin glistened with patches of scales the colour of her pale skin. She had long, wavy thick sapphire hair and eyes the colour of the Carribean seas. To top her costume, she wore a baggy white crop top with the word 'sushi' written across her chest in bold, black letters.
The mermaid waved at Dylan, exposing her webbed fingers and sharp nails. She smiled in a friendly manner, which was hard to process with her thin, needle-like black teeth. Emily shivered at the sight of them and held onto Dylan a little more tightly. In response, Dylan gently massaged the back of Emily's ankle with his thumb, and the sparks instantly replaced Emily's fear with comfort. "Hey, Kelsey."
Kelsey, the mermaid, grinned even wider. Although her teeth looked sharp enough to pierce steel, she emitted nothing short of a kind, sweet aura. "Is this your mate?" Her ocean eyes then landed on Emily and they widened in recognition. "You're from the tournament!
Emily, with no choice but to look down at the mermaid from Dylan's shoulders, nodded her head. "You were there?" Surely Emily would've remembered a girl with enchanting blue hair. Especially when the colour looked so natural.
"I'm on the Brampton team, duh," Kelsey teased. "Though, I bet Daisy stole away all your attention from the rest of us."
"Why?" Dylan asked, confused. Emily refused to answer, making Kelsey chuckle. Dylan glanced between the two girls. He then looked up, trapping Emily in his mesmerizing eyes. Emily felt a strong pull thug at her chest as she gazed into his eyes, encouraging her to speak.
She couldn't fight the pull, but she could choose her words. "Is she here?" Emily tried her best to sound neutral.
"Oh, she's here," Dylan grumbled. His tone perked Emily up. Did he also not want Daisy to interfere with their night?
"She's probably with that pack of hers." Kelsey sighed and flipped her hair over her shoulder. "Well, if you see her, will you let her know that she can hang out with me once she grows bored with the wolves."
Dylan chuckled. "Will do."
"Thanks, and are you two finally done with the beach?"
Dylan glanced up at Emily and she nodded her head. "Yeah, we're gonna go check out the rest of the party."
"Awesome!" Kelsey gave them a quick goodbye wave and turned to the other merpeople around and in the pool. "The beach is free," she hollered, and the merpeople cheered.
Emily gaped at them, struggling to understand how the mechanics of their tail allowed them to swim so easily. Shouldn't they be drowning? But Dylan didn't waste any time and kept moving, leaving the merfolks in the dust.
From Dylan's shoulders, Emily had a clear view of the party as Dylan entered Theo's house from the basement walk-out Arcadia doors. They were tall enough that Emily didn't have to crouch.
The basement consisted mainly of a massive bonus room spanning the length of the house. The area by the doors was designed as a theatre with a projector and a sectional sofa big enough to seat fifteen individuals. The white colour of the plush velvet gave Emily slight palpitations, especially because of a pair of demons and nymphs who were waving their wine glasses animatedly. The fact that Emily didn't see any stains yet was a miracle, but it was only a matter of time till Theo's expensive couch got a paint job.
